Ambidextrous leadership, which integrates transactional and transformational leadership, is a common leadership style. AIM: This study was conducted to determine whether psychological empowerment mediates the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and clinical nurse leadership among critical care nurses. STUDY DESIGN: A c

An AI-Facilitated Virtual Teaching Assistant for Undergraduate Nursing Honors Research: An Embedded Mixed-Methods Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly integrated into higher education. However, evidence on theory-informed AI interventions supporting nursing research training remains limited. PURPOSE: To evaluate an AI-facilitated teaching assistant (INSPIRE-AI) on final-year undergraduate nursing honors students' research self-efficacy, motivation, and research interest, and explore students' experiences of using INSPIRE-AI. METHODS: An embedded mixed-methods study comprising a one-group quasi-experimental pretest/posttest design with postintervention semistructured qualitative inter

Phenomenology in pediatric nursing: Lessons from studies of mothers caring for children with chronic illnesses.

Phenomenology offers a powerful methodological lens through which pediatric nursing researchers can explore the emotional, cultural, and relational dimensions of caring for children with chronic illnesses. Drawing on a series of qualitative studies conducted with Jordanian mothers of children living with conditions such as type 1 diabetes mellitus, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, end-stage renal failure, and glycogen storage disease, this article reflects on the practical and philosophical applications of phenomenological inquiry in pediatric contexts. The insights presented highligh

"There's No Place Like Home": A Scoping Review on the Impact of Homelike Residential Care Models on Resident-, Family-, and Staff-Related Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing emphasis on promoting "homelike" residential care models enabling care-dependent people to continue living in a self-determined manner. Yet, little is known about the outcomes of homelike residential care models. PURPOSE: We aimed to (1) identify homelike residential care models for older care-dependent people with and without dementia, and (2) explore the impact of these models on resident-, family-, and staff-related outcomes. DESIGN AND METHODS: We applied a scoping review method and conducted a comprehensive literature search in PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL

The clinical nurse leader: a catalyst for improving quality and patient safety.

AIM: The clinical nurse leader (CNL) is a new nursing role introduced by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). This paper describes its potential impact in practice. BACKGROUND: Significant pressures are being placed on health care delivery systems to improve patient care outcomes and lower costs in an environment of diminishing resources. METHOD: A naturalistic approach is used to evaluate the impact the CNL has had on outcomes of care. Case studies describe the CNL implementation experiences at three different practice settings within the same geographic region. RESULTS:

Intracolonic vancomycin for severe Clostridium difficile colitis.

BACKGROUND: Clostridium difficile colitis is associated with increased age, antibiotic usage, and hospitalization. Severe C. difficile colitis refractory to medical therapy may require surgical intervention including subtotal colectomy. We initiated an adjuvant intracolonic vancomycin (ICV) enema protocol for inpatients with severe C. difficile colitis and compared the response to this therapy in patients from the community and nursing homes. METHODS: A single-hospital, retrospective chart review was done on 47 consecutive patients with C. difficile colitis treated with ICV (1 g/500 mL normal

Application of XR in nursing skills training for nurses and nursing students: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Proficient nursing skills are essential for patient safety, yet limited clinical resources restrict hands-on training for nursing students and nurses. As a promising technical tool, extended reality (XR) holds great potential for nursing skills training, though a comprehensive synthesis of its applications, outcomes and barriers remains lacking. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to map the applications of XR in nursing skills training, summarize training outcomes and barriers, evaluate outcomes using the Kirkpatrick Model, and describe their use across the three XR modalities.

Assessment and nursing diagnosis in fluid and electrolyte disorders.

Disorders of fluid and electrolyte balance are common considerations in adult medical-surgical clients with underlying pathologic conditions. The assessment framework presented in an integrated approach is an attempt to provide the clinician with a nursing model to be used in gaining pertinent clinical information from clients with existing or suspected fluid and electrolyte disorders. The use of health patterns facilitates the collection and organization of information gained by the nurse through assessment. This framework assists the nurse in processing subjective and objective assessment da
