Conventional intravenous chemotherapy regimens are toxic, cumbersome, and negatively affect patients' quality of life, with oral treatment preferable to most patients with cancer. For the 15-year period of time 2 patients with myelogenetic disease (MD) and concomitant exudative pleuritis were observed in the clinic. In one of them with MD diagnosed 3 years before there was nonspecific (occurred after the pleuropneumonia) pleuritis. We describe the simultaneous presentation of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple myeloma (MM). Our patient had MDS (RAEB type) and bone marrow infiltration (40% plasma cells), as well as biclonal paraprotein. Patients with MM, MDS have been reported after chemotherapy but few cases documenting the coexistence of MDS and MM at diagnosis have been reported in the literature.

BACKGROUND: Crystalglobulinemia syndrome (CS) is a rare vasculopathy that may arise as a complication of multiple myeloma (MM).
METHODS AND RESULTS: A patient with multiple myeloma in whom crystalglobulinemia syndrome was the initial manifestation with polyarthralgias, cutaneous ulceration, and lower limb ischemia requiring bilateral amputations is reported.
CONCLUSION: The rare syndrome of crystalglobulinemia may be associated with multiple myeloma, so it is important that clinicians be aware of this syndrome and its clinical and morphologic features.

We describe a patient with essential thrombocythemia (ET) who developed multiple myeloma (MM) 5 years after the initial diagnosis. A review of the literature revealed no additional reports of the association of these two diseases. Development of MM was not related to treatment of essential thrombocythemia. This association suggests an alteration at the pluripotential stem cell level.
