Intraductal carcinoma (DCIS) is a useful marker for predicting which women will develop a recurrent breast malignancy. The authors examined 150 consecutive, mammographically detected, T1 invasive carcinomas associated with DCIS to study the DCIS and compare it to its associated invasive carcinoma. Intraductal carcinoma nuclear grades were assigned to each duct on a scale of 1 to 3. The percentage of DCIS ducts that were involved by each grade was quantitated into quartiles for cases with more than one DCIS nuclear grade. We studied 1312 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for gallstones in the biliary tract at one university hospital in Siena, Italy, with a systematic classification of gallstones found within the gallbladder. Of these patients, 1226 were found to have gallbladder stones; 94 of these had black pigment gallstones. Of these, 13 patients were found to have black pigment gallstones and cholesterol gallstones within their gallbladder. They all had multiple black pigment gallstones, usually very small (all < 6 mm diameter), in association with larger cholesterol stones in the gallbladder lumen

Primary urachal carcinomas are very rare urological malignancies. In the present article we report an unusual case of a small cell carcinoma with neurendocrine features and adenocarcinoma arising in the urachus, and review the literature. The results of the immunohistochemical studies are presented.

We report a case of renal oncocytoma which was found incidentally during the nephroureterectomy for renal pelvis carcinoma. The coexistence of two tumors on the kidney with absolutely different origin one from the other is extremely rare and interesting. Herein we discuss the clinical, morphological, histological, ultrastructural and angiographical characteristics of oncocytoma.

Three hundred and seventy-two patients with colorectal tumours treated by curative resection between January 1982 and January 1992 were reviewed in order to determine the role of colonoscopy and the outcome of patients with multiple tumours. Thirty (8.1%) of them with a mean age of 57 (35-79) years (20 males, 10 females) had synchronous (19 cases) or metachronous (11 cases) lesions. Mammary hamartomas are uncommon breast lesions, sometimes presenting as mammographic abnormalities which require pathological clarification. Previous cases have all been benign. A unique case of mammary hamartoma containing atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), and foci of microinvasive lobular carcinoma is presented. The need for adequately sampling macroscopically innocuous breast lesions is emphasised.

A case of pituitary adenoma associated with multiple neurinomas in the central nervous system was presented. A 52-year-old man was referred to us for surgical treatment of an intradural extramedullary cervical cord tumor. He had been operated on for a cauda equina tumor when he was 43 years old, and again for a glossopharyngeal neurinoma at 49 years of age. Out of a series of 36 patients with chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML), five cases are reported with the association of this hemopathy to solid neoplasms. In two patients this last was a cutaneous tumour, while the remainders had, respectively, papilloma of the bladder, carcinoma of the sigma, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. The association of a malignant melanoma appearing as an additional primary tumor in the swollen arm adjacent to a mastectomy for breast cancer is reported. A review of the literature revealed only one similar patient previously reported. In both patients, the melanoma and its metastasis were restricted to the lymphedematous arm, appeared 10 years post-mastectomy, and responded to therapy. The similarity to Stewart-Treves syndrome is emphasized. It is suggested that nevi developing in the lymphedematous arm post-mastectomy should be carefully monitored and excised early whenever indicated.

A rare case of a colon carcinoma that developed in a 50-year-old woman is documented. Histologically, the removed tumor was composed of two distinctive elements, i.e., well-differentiated papillary adenocarcinoma and choriocarcinoma. The present case is an autopsy case of a 66-year-old male who developed a collision tumor in the stomach which originated from carcinosarcoma of Borrmann type II in the gastric antrum and from papillary adenocarcinoma of Borrmann type III in the corpus.
