A specific retinopathy has been described in African children with cerebral malaria, but in adults this has not been extensively studied. Since the structure and function of the retinal vasculature greatly resembles the cerebral vasculature, study of retinal changes can reveal insights into the pathophysiology of cerebral malaria. Spasmodic torticollis was an early designation used for cervical dystonia. The origin of this name is attributed to French physician and writer François Rabelais in the mid-sixteenth century. This early description of torticollis in the book Pantagruel was an inspiration for the understanding of cervical dystonia. The art expressed in Rabelais' literature ‒ which was immortalized by the drawings of Gustave Doré ‒ influenced poetry, art, and photography, and led to the adoption of the term torticollis in the neurological sciences.

We report two cases of thrombosis of the internal jugular vein which occurred after prolonged cannulation of the vein by a Shaldon-catheter for acute haemodialysis. In one case this complication provoked cerebral oedema and death of the patient. In the second case the thrombosis of the internal jugular vein was confirmed by autopsy and documented by photography but did not affect the fate of the patient. Yoffa's supraclavicular approach to the subclavian vein is discussed as an alternative.

We report the retinal and choroidal manifestations using multimodal imaging in a patient with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1). In this report, we describe the occurrence of a new retinal finding which we label as retinal café-au-lait macules. Also, we describe the superiority of multicolour imaging in comparison to colour fundus photography for identifying the retinal manifestations in NF-1.
