Pityriasis rosea-like eruption after bone marrow transplantation.

Bone marrow transplantation is associated with numerous cutaneous complications that may be related to the underlying (preexisting) disease, to pretransplant conditioning, to immunosuppression, to concomitant medication, or to graft-versus-host reaction. We describe four bone marrow transplant recipients with the clinical and histologic features of pityriasis rosea, a hitherto unreported association.

Focal acantholytic dyskeratosis occurring in pityriasis rubra pilaris.

Focal acantholytic dyskeratosis (FAD) is a distinctive histologic pattern characterized by suprabasilar clefts surrounding dermal papillae (villi), acantholytic and dyskeratotic cells at all levels of the epidermis, hyperkeratosis, and parakeratosis. The features of FAD are typically seen in Darier's disease, warty dyskeratoma, and transient acantholytic dermatosis; they are also present in a variety of cutaneous neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions. FAD, however, has not been previously described in lesions of inflammatory dermatoses. We report a case of FAD occurring in lesions of pityriasis…

Pityriasis rosea-like eruption associated with BCG vaccination.

We report a case of a pityriasis rosea-like eruption in a 12-year-old boy several days following BCG vaccination. It is suggested that the BCG vaccination be included in the etiology of pityriasis rosea-like eruptions.

Childhood-onset pityriasis rubra pilaris with immunologic abnormalities.

We examined a 6-year-old boy with seborrheic dermatitis like redness of the face, scaling of the scalp, and palmoplantar keratoderma. Skin biopsy showed hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, follicular plugging, and mild upper dermal perifollicular mononuclear inflammatory infiltrate, which are compatible with the diagnosis of pityriasis rubra pilaris. Immunologic studies revealed normal values of peripheral B and T lymphocytes. The spontaneous activity of T suppressor cells was activated and the function of T helper cells was impaired, however.

Pityriasis rubra pilaris with symmetric polyarthritis and lymphadenopathy.

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare, inflammatory cutaneous disorder of unknown aetiology, and its association with inflammatory joint disease has not been well established. The lack of definitive evidence or clear guidelines makes PRP treatment difficult. Our patient presented with multiple large non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) and a progressive cutaneous eruption consistent with PRP. NMSCs on presentation were found to be five basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), one squamous cell carcinoma and one invasive carcinoma with basaloid and squamous differentiation to skeletal muscle requiring rad…

Purpuric pityriasis rosea in patients with anorexia nervosa.

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is an exanthematous disease associated with the endogenous systemic reactivation of human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 and/or HHV-7. Variants of PR characterized by atypical lesion morphology, eruption course, and severe symptoms have already been described, but their prevalence is probably underestimated. We report herein two patients suffering from anorexia nervosa (AN) who developed a very rare form of purpuric PR. So far, no cases of PR in AN patients have been reported in the literature.

Acute lichenoid and varioliform pityriasis in a pediatric patient.

BACKGROUND: Pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA) is a rare dermatosis recognized as a benign condition of unknown etiopathogenesis. It is more common in pediatric patients and young adults and is characterized by multiple small or large erythematous plaques spread over the trunk and extremities. CASE REPORT: We describe the case of a 5-year-old male, previously healthy, with multiple erythematous lesions that disappeared leaving hypopigmented macules. The biopsy reported histological changes suggestive of mycosis fungoides. After a second revision of lamellae in this hospital…

Pityriasis Alba in Pediatric Patients With Skin of Color.

As we continue to work toward a more equitable future of medicine, it is necessary to recognize the needs distinct to pediatric dermatology to decrease health disparities that affect this patient population. Currently, there is very little research investigating the predominate risk factors and management of pityriasis alba in children with skin of color. Herein, we discuss existing literature on pityriasis alba in children with skin of color, as well as the research and educational needs in this area. Pityriasis Versicolor-A Narrative Review on the Diagnosis and Management.

This narrative review presents a comprehensive overview of the diagnosis and management of pityriasis versicolor (PV), a common superficial fungal infection caused by the yeast Malassezia. PV is characterised by scaly hypopigmented or hyperpigmented patches, primarily affecting the upper trunk, neck, and upper arms. Regarding commensal interactions, Malassezia utilises nutrient sources without affecting the human host. In cases of pathogenicity, Malassezia can directly harm the host via virulence factors or toxins, or indirectly by triggering damaging host responses. The diagnosis typically re…
