INTRODUCTION: Transverse rectus abdominus muscle flaps (TRAM) can result in significant abdominal wall donor-site morbidity. We present our experience with bilateral pedicle TRAM breast reconstruction using a double-layered polypropylene mesh fold over technique to repair the rectus fascia.

Incisional hernias remain one of the most common surgical complications with a long-term incidence of 10-20%. Increasing evidence of impaired wound healing in these patients supports routine use of an open prefascial, retromuscular mesh repair. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the tissue integration of and tolerance to five different mesh types used in genital prolapse surgery to provide mechanical support.
STUDY DESIGN: We placed five different meshes (Vicryl, Vypro, Prolene, Prolene soft, and Mersuture) on the peritoneums of 12 pigs. After 10 weeks, we used light microscopy to analyze the tissue integration of and tolerance to these meshes. We looked for inflammation, vascularization, fibroblasts, collagen fibers and the organization of connective tissue.

Flexible food packaging is widely used in daily life, yet the potential risk of microplastics release, especially under common heating scenarios remains poorly understood. A 1 yr old female Chihuahua was presented for traumatic skull injury. Computed tomography revealed brain herniation through the bregmatic fontanelle. The hernia was manually reduced, and the defect was repaired using a polypropylene mesh. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of brain herniation through the bregmatic fontanelle in a dog.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: There is a long history of implantation of absorbable and nonabsorbable materials to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). The focus of this review is to review the development of new materials for use in the surgical management of both pelvic conditions following an unacceptable level of severe complications in the use of polypropylene mesh (PPM). We discuss current concepts relating to the development of new materials with particular reference to our experience with polyurethane mesh.

Seventeen patients averaging 51 years of age underwent 23 surgical procedures, including suture suspension for both midface and neck rejuvenations. Sixteen dogs were placed under general anesthesia and flail segments of the left chest were created by transecting ribs 7,8,9, and 10 anteriorly and posteriorly.
