Production of precipitating and complement-fixing antibody in rabbits and other animals was induced by immunization with live yeast-phase cells of Histoplasma capsulatum. Results of studies of polysaccharide antigens from three strains of H. capsulatum, by quantitative complement-fixation with human and rabbit antisera, strongly suggest the presence of type specificity. The variations of titer during 11 weeks in one patient with histoplasmosis and the variations of titer among a group of patients with histoplasmosis were studied by use of quantitative complement-fixation tests.

Antibodies against botulinum toxin (BT) are currently best detected by the mouse diaphragm assay (MDA). Nevertheless, the MDA still has disadvantages, so that an immunoprecipitation assay (IPA) was introduced recently. The epidemiological and clinical features of big liver and spleen disease (BLS) in flocks on two broiler breeder farms were investigated by serology and gross pathology. The most common necropsy findings on farm 1 were splenomegaly and hepatomegaly, with kidney enlargement in some birds. In one flock (farm 1), a decline in egg production began at 40 weeks of age and lasted for 9 weeks. Seroconversion to BLS antigen was first detected at 45 weeks (3.1% of birds) and increased to 72% at 50 weeks, which coincided with clinical recovery in the flock. Potent immunogenicity of certain extracellular 'chymotrypsin-like' enzymes of Micropolyspora faeni are demonstrated. One of them, Enzyme 1 seems particularly active in stimulating the formation of percipitins after intratracheal exposure in rabbits. Man or cattle exposed naturally to mouldy hay, either with or without clinical farmer's lung symptoms show a rather constant immunological reaction against Enzyme 1 and partly also against others of the same group. The detection of specific percipitins against these enzymes is not likely to improve the diagnostic value of the standard farmer's lung
