[Intrastromal corneal segments implantation in keratoconus].

Comparative analysis of intrastromal corneal segments Keraring implantation using either femtosecond laser or manual technique to create corneal tunnel in 47 patients (47 eyes) with keratoconus stage II-III is presented. Refractional and functional results in groups with femtosecond laser and manual technique did not show significant difference. The main advantage of femtosecond laser revealed in the study is technical simplification of intrastromal tunnels creation.

Rapid growth of pterygium after photorefractive keratectomy.

BACKGROUND: A pterygium is a fibrovascular overgrowth of degenerative conjunctiva over the limbus onto the cornea. The risk factors for pterygium development include exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, dust, wind, heat, dryness, and smoke. As far as we are aware, rapid growth of pterygium secondary to photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) has not been reported previously. CASE REPORT: A 49-year-old man presented with blurring vision in the left eye. The patient had undergone PRK in both eyes at another surgical center 11 months prior. Examination found a pterygium extending 3 mm over the corneal

Human corneal thickness and its impact on intraocular pressure measures: a review and meta-analysis approach.

We determined the "normal" central corneal thickness (CCT) value in human corneas based on reported literature values for within-study average CCT values, and used this as a reference to assess the reported impact of physiological variables (especially age and diurnal effects), contact lens wear, pharmaceuticals, ocular disease, and ophthalmic surgery on CCT. With the expected CCT and its variance defined, it should be possible to determine the potential impact of differences in CCT in intraocular pressure (IOP) assessments, especially by applanation tonometry, using a meta-analysis approach.

[Occupational rehabilitation of railway workers after refraction surgery].

The authors studied occupationally significant visual functions (vision, parameters of color and photopic vision) in patients who faced refraction surgeries correcting myopia or hypermetropia. Preoperative studies and examinations in 0.5 and 1.0-1.5 years after surgeries helped to define the period optimal for restoration and stabilization of the functions. Therefore, occupational rehabilitation is designed for those railway safety workers who faced such surgeries.

Surgical management of glaucoma in microspherophakia using quadruple procedure.

BACKGROUND: Microspherophakia is a rare developmental lens anomaly with increased anteroposterior and reduced equatorial diameter. It presents with refractive myopia, shallow anterior chamber, and angle closure glaucoma. It is associated with subluxated or dislocated lens, progressive myopia, defective accommodation, and glaucoma. Glaucoma is the most common vision-threatening complication and mostly requires surgical management that includes trabeculectomy, lensectomy, and drainage implant. A staged or combined procedure can be performed. The purpose of this video is to highlight the advantag

Interocular mismatches of high-order wavefront aberrations impair stereoacuity following refractive surgeries by reducing the disparity signal quality.

PURPOSE: (1) To investigate if binocular cross-correlation metrics derived from the aberrated monocular retinal images can explain the deterioration of stereoacuity following keratorefractive surgeries. (2) To investigate if the quality of binocular metrics improves with improved monocular retinal image quality and pupil miosis. METHODS: High-order aberrations (HOAs) were obtained over 6 mm pupil diameter from 99 young adults undergoing photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) (n = 26), laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) (n = 38), and ReLEx small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE; n =

Effects of intracorneal ring segments implementation technique and design on corneal biomechanics and keratometry in a personalized computational analysis.

The implementation of intracorneal ring segments (ICRS) is one of the successfully applied refractive operations for the treatment of keratoconus (kc) progression. The different selection of ICRS types along with the surgical implementation techniques can significantly affect surgical outcomes. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the influence of ICRS implementation techniques and design on the postoperative biomechanical state and keratometry results. The clinical data of three patients with different stages and patterns of keratoconus were assessed to develop a three-dimensional (3D) patie

Refractive Changes Associated With Pediatric Kidney Transplantation.

INTRODUCTION: Kidney transplantation remains the optimal treatment for children with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), 25%-40% of which are estimated to be caused by congenital malformations and genetic syndromes. Given the widespread nature of this surgical procedure, ocular complications may arise from the operation itself or from subsequent medical treatments. The aim of this study is to determine whether there are postoperative refractive changes in pediatric patients who have undergone kidney transplantation and to detect the presence of refractive changes that may cause amblyopia in patien
