BACKGROUND: In the past two decades, the introduction of robotic technology has facilitated minimally invasive cardiac surgery, allowing surgeons to operate endoscopically rather than through a median sternotomy. This approach has facilitated procedures for several structural heart conditions, including mitral valve repair, atrial septal defect closure and multivessel minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting. In this rapidly evolving field, we review the status of robotic cardiac surgery in Europe with a focus on mitral valve surgery and coronary revascularization.

An epiphrenic oesophageal diverticulum is most commonly a pulsion diverticulum which develops consequent to protrusion of mucosa through the muscular wall of the distal oesophagus. Most of them are associated with underlying oesophageal motility disorders. In Japan, the population is expected to decrease. Moreover, the proportion of elderly people living alone among the elderly population is expected to increase for both men and women. Therefore, the demand for elderly care is increasing year by year. In this paper, we aim at making environment in which elderly people can receive interactive guidance, and reducing the burden on medical staff such as caregivers and nurses. So, we design a patient education by ARCS model which classifies concepts related to learning motivation, and consider to utilize a communication robot "Pepper".

We herein report our experience with the management of laryngoceles using transoral robotic surgery (TORS). A bicentric retrospective study was conducted from November 2009 to September 2015. Mediastinal parathyroid cysts (PC) are rare, benign lesions, reported in fewer than 150 cases worldwide. Although most are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on imaging, symptoms of dyspnea, dysphagia, hoarseness, palpitations, hypercalcemia, and innominate or jugular venous thrombosis have been reported. Sternotomy or thoracotomy has traditionally been the approach used to resect mediastinal PCs. We describe the first reported case of a robot-assisted resection of a mediastinal PC.

INTRODUCTION: Large stones in renal pelvis can be treated with percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) or pyelolithotomy (either by open or laparoscopic techniques).
