Inflammatory optic neuritis and scleritis following commencement of semaglutide: a case report.

Given the documented increased risk of non-arteritic ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION), the widespread use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) has raised concerns regarding their ophthalmic safety. This study presents a unique case of inflammatory optic neuritis and scleritis in a 43-year-old female one month following commencement of semaglutide. Extensive investigations for underlying systemic causes, including autoimmune and connective tissue disorders were negative. Treatment with systemic corticosteroids led to a gradual resolution of symptoms and return of vision to…

Posterior Scleritis in a Patient with Psoriasis Masquerading as Acute Angle Closure Glaucoma.

Posterior scleritis is a relatively uncommon form of scleral inflammation of the posterior segment of the eye. Clinical manifestations include ocular pain, headache, pain with ocular movements, and loss of vision. A rare presentation of the disease is acute angle closure crisis (AACC) with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) secondary to anterior displacement of the ciliary body. Various systemic diseases have been described to co-exist with posterior scleritis; however, psoriasis has not been associated with posterior scleritis. Here, we present a case of posterior scleritis which initially p…

The haplotypes of various TNF related genes associated with scleritis in Chinese Han.

BACKGROUND: Several studies have stated that TNF-α participates in the pathogenesis of scleritis, but also in several systemic autoimmune diseases and vasculitis, of which some are associated with scleritis. Earlier GWAS and SNP studies have confirmed that multiple SNPs of TNF related genes are associated with many immune-mediated disorders. The purpose of this study was to examine the association of TNF related gene polymorphisms with scleritis in Chinese Han. A case-control study was carried out in 556 non-infectious scleritis cases and 742 normal controls. A total of 28 single-nucleotide po…

An unusual case of ocular tuberculosis presenting as subretinal abscess with posterior scleritis.

We report an unusual presentation of ocular tuberculosis with subretinal abscess with associated posterior scleritis. This is a first-of-its-kind report of such an association. A 26-year-old female presented to us with complaints of redness, pain, and decreased vision in her left eye since 1 week. On examination, the vision in her right eye was 6/6 and in the left eye was 1/60. Detailed ocular evaluation revealed exudative retinal detachment, subretinal abscess, and disk edema. Ocular and systemic investigations were consistent with presumed tubercular etiology and posterior scleritis. The pat…
