Intravitreal suture: a complication of pterygium surgery.

Among the complications associated with pterygium surgery, scleral perforation is mentioned in cases where subconjunctival tissue must be separated from the sclera. We present a case in which such a perforation and consequent suturing resulted in an intravitreous migration of a suture. We believe this is the first report of such a complication following pterygium surgery.

Progressive cranial suture stenosis in craniosynostosis.

Despite the growing literature on various types of single suture craniosynostosis, very little information is available on the progression of the synostotic process. This article reports on a group of patients who presented with fusion of a single suture that progressed over the years to involve multiple sutures. Other patients who presented with delayed holocalvarial synostosis are also discussed. Surgery (multiple craniectomies or morcellation procedure) resulted in symptomatic relief in all patients. The diagnostic and therapeutic implications of these types of craniosynostosis are discusse…

Craniofacial suture stenosis: morphologic effects.

Craniofacial anomalies, such as Apert's and Crouzon's syndromes, are presumed to be related to premature growth arrest of cranial base growth sites. However, premature growth arrest at cranial vault sutures in animals appears to play a causative role in the development of cranial deformities characteristic of single-suture, or simple, craniosynostosis in humans. To study the possible causative role of cranial vault and other (interface) suture stenoses on the development of craniofacial deformity, a vault suture and an interface suture between the cranial vault and facial skeleton were simulta…

Suturing angiodysplastic lesions of the small intestine.

Suturing angiodysplastic lesions of the small intestine during perioperative enteroscopy is a quick and simple method with a minimal chance of complications. The technique described herein is a reliable tool that can be used repeatedly in the same procedure.

[The Tsuge suture. Experimental and clinical experiences].

Microangiographic studies in the flexor profundus tendon of the rabbit show the relationship between the gaps in tendon-stumps and tendon ad … ially for the flexor superficialis tendon and the extensor apparatus. For distal fixation of tendon sutures to bone, pulley and tendon insertion it has also proven to be a reliable and simple technique.

Delayed and progressive multiple suture craniosynostosis.

A considerable amount of information is available on various types of craniosynostoses. The patient exhibiting single suture synostosis that progresses to involve multiple sutures is distinctly uncommon, as is the patient exhibiting delayed synostosis involving all of the calvarial sutures. We report a group of 11 such patients with progressive and delayed holocalvarial synostosis. Most patients exhibited features of raised intracranial pressure or developmental delay, and in all patients symptoms were relieved after surgery. The diagnostic and therapeutic implications of this type of presenta…

[Dolicocephaly and premature synostosis of the sagittal suture].

Guided by the literature historical, racial, genetical and diagnostical aspects, likewise associated syndromes and malformations of dolichocephaly and premature sagittal synostosis are represented, also own clinical, roentgenological, pneum- and electroencephalographic findings of 57 patients. Vascular disturbances of brain were striking, further emotional lability and tendency for relapsing depressions. Psychosocial problems of patients with scaphocephaly are discussed in detail and from that a conditional indication for cosmetic correction is asserted.

[Suture of the submucosa in large intestine anastomosis].

A comparison of three different suture techniques on the large bowel of the same experimental animal demonstrated that careful suture alone is adequate to produce a sufficient anastomosis. The advantages of this suture technique are to provide strength to the intestinal anastomosis, less scar tissue, and fewer peritoneal adhesions. The experimental results suggest that suturing of the submucosa can be used on other intestinal areas, too.

[Suture threads in the pathology of the operated stomach].

Endoscopy following operations on the stomach showed inflammation or ulceration attributable to no-absorbable suture threads in a number of cases. The pathogenetic and clinical features of this picture are described. Complete remission was obtained after endoscopic removal of the foreign body.

Recurrent Iris Capture after Iris Suturing following Scleral-Sutured Intraocular Lens Fixation: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Capture of the intraocular lens (IOL) optic by the iris or pupillary margin is defined as iris capture, and this postoperative complication occurs after scleral-sutured IOL fixation and sutureless intrascleral fixation. However, the optimal placement of iris sutures for preventing recurrence has yet to be adequately described. CASE PRESENTATION: We report on the case of a 72-year-old man with ocular hypertension 1 year after scleral-sutured IOL fixation in the left eye who was referred for iris capture. Although topical medication was initially used to relieve the iris capture, …

Outcomes and Complications of Suture-Button versus All-Suture Suspensionplasty in Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthritis: A Retrospective Comparative Study.

Background: Our objective is to compare clinical, radiographic and complication-related outcomes between two non-autologous implants - Mini TightRope® and Microlink™ - used in suspensionplasty following open trapeziectomy for thumb carpometacarpal joint arthritis. Methods: We retrospectively analysed 77 patients (41 Mini TightRope®, 36 Microlink™) treated between 2017 and 2021 with a minimum follow-up of 36 months. All surgeries were performed by the same experienced hand surgeon using a standardised open technique. Pre- and postoperative assessments included Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Sho

Effect of barbed suture vs. conventional suture on postoperative recovery and uterine integrity in patients undergoing laparoscopic myomectomy.

BACKGROUND: Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors in women, and laparoscopic surgery is one of the main treatment methods. The choice of … ion, number of fibroids, and menopausal status significantly affected uterine integrity, and barbed sutures significantly improved postoperative uterine integrity (OR = 3.984, P = 0.019). Significant interactions existed between suture method and history of abortion as well as fibroid degeneration, with barbed sutures having a more pronounced effect on ut …

Wound closure methods were compared: Group A underwent primary closure with silk sutures, while Group B had suture-less closure. Subjects were allocated to the specific groups using a simple randomization method. This involved using a lottery-based random sequence to assign each participant to either Group A or Group B.
