Infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae continues to be a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Most of the pneumococci remain exquisitely sensitive to penicillin. However, S. pneumoniae with a reduced susceptibility to penicillin has been reported. To our knowledge, we present the first case in Croatia of fatal sepsis in a child due to Streptococcus pneumoniae that was highly resistant to penicillin.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: In patients with advanced cancer, AIDS and end-stage organ diseases, symptoms of cachexia syndrome include decrease in appetite, weight loss, decreased performance status, and an increase in the systemic inflammatory response. Inflammatory cytokines and other immune interactions affect the lean tissue mass and body fat. BACKGROUND: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a relatively new and rare complication of COVID-19. This complication seems to develop after the infection rather than during the acute phase of COVID-19. This report aims to describe a case of MIS-C in an 8-year-old Thai boy who presented with unilateral lung consolidation.
