Tonsil hypertrophy (TH) is very common in children. Previously, it has been reported that an inverse relationship exists between adenoid hypertrophy (AH) and allergic rhinitis (AR). This study aimed to investigate the possible relationship between tonsil volume and AR diagnosis in a group of children complaining of upper airways obstruction. Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is an uncommon tumour within the spectrum of histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms that can occur at nodal and extra-nodal sites. Epidermoid and dermoid cysts are benign, developmental lesions that can be encountered anywhere in the body. Our literature search did not result in a finding of any report of an epidermoid cyst located in the palatine tonsils. This is a report of a 42-year-old female patient who underwent a tonsillectomy for diagnostic purposes because of an epidermoid cyst arising from the tonsil which was confirmed by histology.

Cavernous hemangioma is also called as 'ANGIOMA CAVERNOSUM' or 'CAVERNOMA' as benign lesion of blood vessels. They are similar to strawberry hemangioma but deeply situated. Although most often associated with skin it is also sometimes found in mucous membrane, brain and the viscera. The diagnosis of hemangiomas is mainly based on clinical evaluation . Isolated hemangiomas in the tonsillar tissue is a rare occurance. In this we report had a case of adult tonsillar hemangioma of left side associated with recurrent tonsillitis . He was effectively managed surgically without any complications.

Tonsils are secondary lymphoid organs that play an important role in host defense. The aim of our study was to develop reliable procedures for isolation and culture of pig tonsil cells, and to validate their possible use in functional immunoassays. Using our isolation procedure, we recovered on average 238.7 ± 107.1 × 10(6) cells per tonsil couple with a mean vitality of 89.8 ± 2.7%. We report on a case of oesophageal leiomyoma presenting as a potential cause of sudden airway obstruction. The patient presented with a large mass in the oral cavity after an episode of forceful vomiting. The operative findings and histology of which confirmed this to be an oesophageal leiomyoma emanating from the upper oesophagus, a rare finding. The mass was excised and the patient's subsequent post-operative recovery and follow-up has been unremarkable. Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is unusual, and those with an extranodal origin in the head and neck region are extremely rare. To date, no cases of tumors featuring the characteristics of follicular dendritic cells were reported in Korea. We report a new case of FDCS of the tonsils in a 65-year-old man. We present a rare case of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the palatine tonsil with cervical lymph node involvement treated by surgical resection. A 58-year-old Caucasian male presented with a solitary 3 cm x 3 cm jugulodigastric lymph node and was found to have an ipsilateral tonsillar swelling. Several histopathological modalities of tumours can grow in the rhinopharynx. Solitary extramedullary plasmocytoma (SEP) is a low frequent variety of low-grade lymphoma. The aim of this work is to present a new case of SEP localized in rhinopharynx and to perform a review of diagnostic and therapeutic protocols of these neoplasias. They must be taken into account in the differential diagnosis of nasopharyngeal tumours.

The study was carried out in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology NMCTH (n = 20, age 3-54yrs) who presented tonsil problems and underwent tonsillectomy over period of 1 year (2006-2007). Patients who underwent tonsillectomy were selected for study throughout preoperative and two months of postoperative period.
