An efficient and noncompliant method for forced eruption with microimplants that is bracket free, and its long-term stability.

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW: The authors describe a bracket-free forced eruption technique using microimplants that does not require patient compliance and report relapse after long-term observation. CASE DESCRIPTION: In 2 patients who needed to undergo forced eruption of carious and fractured roots of anterior teeth, the authors erupted the roots forcefully with a cantilever wire and microimplants as an anchorage. The microimplants provided sufficient anchorage by approximately 6 to 7 millimeters for forced eruption of the roots. The authors observed minor relapse of approximately 0.5 mm in both

A Novel Preparation-Free Palatal Veneer Technique with Incisal Seating Lugs for Management of Tooth Surface Loss: A Case Report.

Background and Clinical Significance: Tooth surface loss is the irreversible loss of dental hard tissue caused by non-carious processes. Restoration of affected teeth can be challenging, especially on the palatal surfaces of maxillary anterior teeth when severe palatal hard-tissue loss is present without marked clinical crown shortening. In such cases, clinicians must preserve the remaining enamel for predictable adhesive bonding while ensuring accurate seating, complete adaptation, and controlled cementation of thin indirect restorations. To address these challenges, this case report describe

Effect of Pulp Chamber Access, Instrumentation, Obturation, and Restoration on the Fracture Resistance of Endodontically Treated Canine Teeth in Dogs.

Veterinary studies documenting the effect of endodontic treatment on tooth fracture resistance are scarce. The objective of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the effects of mesial access preparation and restoration, as well as pulp chamber access, instrumentation, obturation, and restoration, on the fracture resistance and characteristics of canine teeth in dogs. Sixty-five dog canine teeth were divided into 4 groups: 1. Standard endodontic treatment through a mesial access only; 2. Treatment as per group 1, adding an incisal access, instrumentation and obturation of the pulp chamber, and res

The Effects of Premature Tooth Extraction and Damage on Replacement Timing in the Green Iguana.

Reptiles with continuous tooth replacement, or polyphyodonty, replace their teeth in predictable, well-timed waves in alternating tooth positions around the mouth. This process is thought to occur irrespective of tooth wear or breakage. In this study, we aimed to determine if damage to teeth and premature tooth extraction affects tooth replacement timing long-term in juvenile green iguanas (Iguana iguana). First, we examined normal tooth development histologically using a BrdU pulse-chase analysis to detect label-retaining cells in replacement teeth and dental tissues. Next, we performed tooth

Early onset of enamel formation in Baka pygmy's deciduous canines.

OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to evaluate by enamel microstructure analysis two hypotheses that would explain the early dental eruption in the Bakaparticularity, a shorter crown formation time and/or earlier onset of crown formation. DESIGN: Deciduous canines corresponds to the best teeth to perform the analysis of enamel microstructure. Longitudinal ground sections of 21 deciduous canines from 12 individuals were studied with transmitted light microscopy. Cross-striations, striaes of Retzius (SR) and the neonatal line (NNL) enable to establish the prenatal crown formation time (preCFT), the postnat

Enamel, dentine and pulp in talon primary maxillary central incisors: a histomorphometric study.

AIM: To examine whether a talon incisor has an abnormal shape due to excess of dental hard tissues or pulp. METHODS: Two bilateral primary maxillary central incisors with talon cusp and a supernumerary mesiodens were removed from a 6-year-old boy. Histologically, 7 undecalcified cross sections (70 microm) were harvested from each talon tooth and from two regular primary central incisors of another child. Microradiographs of the sections were prepared and examined for enamel width, dentin width, pulp tissue area, and crown size (mesio-distal, labio-palatal) using Image Analysis. RESULTS: No a

Coronectomy; Good or Bad?

The removal of mandibular third molars can be complicated by injury to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). Coronectomy retains the tooth root; this method has been found to be preferable to extraction in the context of mandibular third molars. A failed coronectomy may cause mobilization of these roots, thereby requiring a subsequent extraction. Having undergone a previous coronectomy, extraction is then safer as the roots usually migrate away from the IAN. Computed tomography is more accurate than radiography when imaging mandibular third molars pre-operatively owing to its three-dimensional na

Three cases of distomolars.

The Frequency with which impacted supernumerary teeth are encountered in a clinical setting is relatively high, with the majority of such cases occurrig in the median maxillary region, and very few in the molar region. In the molar region, mandibular distomolars (fourth molars) are very rare. Although a small number of case reports have described impacted supernumerary distomolars, very few have compared third molars and distomolars. Herein, the authors report two cases involving mandibular distomolars and one case a maxillary distomolar. In each of these cases, the third molar and distomolar

Managing Early Childhood Caries: A Comparative Review of Preventive and Restorative Approaches.

Early childhood caries (ECC), one of the most common health problems among children aged six years and below, is considered present when one or more surfaces of a tooth are decayed, missing, or filled. Not only does ECC cause pain for a long time, but it also has short- and long-term health consequences in children. In order to treat ECC, holistic management that includes preventive, restorative, and prosthetic intervention is necessary. This review, a key aspect of which is preventive strategy, stresses the need to lessen the rate of incidence of such conditions as ECC. In case preventive mea

Case Report: Endodontic management of a fused maxillary lateral incisor and canine with split.

BACKGROUND: Dental fusion, characterized by the joining of two neighboring tooth germs during odontogenesis, is an uncommon condition affecting approximately 0.1% of the permanent dentition. The unusual anatomy of the pulp chamber and the unpredictable root canal system pose significant challenges during endodontic treatment. CASE REPORT: A 47-year-old female patient presented with a 6-month history of spontaneous nocturnal pain in the upper left anterior region. Clinical examination revealed a solitary tooth occupying the positions of teeth 22 and 23; the tooth had a buccal groove and severe

Coexistence of two talon cusps and two dens invaginatus in a single tooth with associated radicular cyst-a case report and review of literature.

Talon cusp (TC) and dens invaginatus (DI) are relatively rare developmental anomalies which affect the shape of teeth. TC is an additional cusp that projects predominately from the lingual surface of anterior teeth. DI is a deep surface invagination of the crown or root which is commonly detected on routine radiographic examination. Both of these anomalies are observed more frequently in permanent maxillary lateral incisor. Isolated cases of single TC and DI are extensively reported in dental literature. Occasionally two talon cusps (TCs) in the same tooth as well as double and triple invagina

AI-based diagnostic evaluation of GPT-4o for crown-fracture detection on maxillary periapical radiographs: effects of prompt detail and customization.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) are rapidly entering dental imaging workflows. We conducted a diagnostic evaluation of GPT-4o for crown-fracture detection on periapical radiographs and examined how prompt detail and customization (prompt-based; no fine-tuning) affect performance in a positives-only dataset. METHODS: In this single-center, retrospective study, 90 different anonymized maxillary periapical radiographs with at least one crown fracture were evaluated by standard GPT-4o (GPT-4o) and customized GPT-4o (CGPT-4o). Both variants were access

Effect of apical root resection, orthodontic extrusion, and surgical crown lengthening on load capability.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to investigate the load-to-fracture of procedures changing crown-to-root ratio (RCRR) aimed to restore severely damaged upper central incisors to avoid tooth extraction compared to implant placement. There is no evidence on load capability after apical root resection (AR), orthodontic extrusion (OE), and surgical crown lengthening (SCL) in respect to RCRR, respectively. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Human maxillary central incisors were endodontically treated, decoronated, and divided into 4 groups (n = 48). The following specimen preparation was performed: (I) adhesive co

Management of Fractured Fragment With Reattachment: A Case Report With 2-Year Follow-Up.

Fragment reattachment is the most conservative treatment approach for uncomplicated crown fractures, which enables the restoration of the original tooth structure and the preservation of the remaining tooth structure. A 15-year-old patient reported with an uncomplicated crown fracture of the maxillary left central incisor involving enamel and dentin. Pulp sensibility testing had a normal response and radiographic examination revealed no periapical pathology. The retrieved fractured fragment had good marginal adaptation. Following rehydration, fragment reattachment was performed under rubber da
