A Modular Digital FFQ for Tibetan Highlanders in Agricultural and Pastoral Communities: Development and Rigorous Multi-Method Validation.

Background: Dietary assessment tools specifically developed and validated for high-altitude Tibetan agricultural and pastoral populations facing unique nutritional challenges remain limited. To address this gap, we developed a digital Tibetan Food Frequency Questionnaire (T-FFQ) with region-specific modules to capture dietary heterogeneity across the agricultural and pastoral communities of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). Its offline-capable architecture based on a web application enables real-time field data capture and storage in resource-limited high-altitude settings. Methods: A total of 20

Social Media Constructions of Alcohol as Emotional Coping and Social Connection in Ghana: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol is a leading contributor to disease and injury worldwide; yet, it remains embedded in cultural practices associated with pleasure, social connection, and emotional relief. While global research has documented both the epidemiological burden and the social meanings of drinking, little is known about how alcohol-related meanings are circulated and normalized within African social media environments. OBJECTIVE: This study explores how alcohol is represented in Ghanaian social media discourse, with particular attention to emotional coping, social interaction, and everyday well

Development and validation of the multi-dimensional health resilience scale for community-dwelling adults.

INTRODUCTION: Resilience measures generally are not health specific, nor do they account for the multiple dimensions required for individuals to overcome health challenges. To bridge this gap, we developed and validated a multi-dimensional Health Resilience Scale (HRS) for community-dwelling adults in Singapore. METHODS: We followed standard procedures to develop health resilience construct, identify dimensions, and generate potential items. Expert review and cognitive interviews were conducted to assess content validity and item clarity. The refined 35-item HRS was administered to 650 eligib

Exploring the Psycho-Social Well-Being of Young Adults in Rural South Africa During the COVID-19 Lockdown: A Qualitative Study from Lonely Park, Mafikeng.

The COVID-19 pandemic and its associated lockdowns had widespread psycho-social implications globally. However, the unique experiences of young adults in under-researched rural communities, such as Lonely Park in South Africa's North West Province, remain poorly documented. This study explores the psycho-social well-being of young adults aged 18-24 in the Lonely Park community during the national COVID-19 lockdown from 23 March 2020 to 30 April 2020, with a particular focus on their emotional, psychological, and social experiences. Using a qualitative, phenomenological design rooted in Bronfen

Multisource Coherence Analysis of the First European Multicenter Cohort Study for Cancer Prevention in People Experiencing Homelessness: Data Quality Study.

BACKGROUND: Coherence across sites in multicenter datasets is one substantial data quality dimension for reliable health data reuse, as unexpected heterogeneity in data can lead to biases in data analyses and suboptimal generalization of results. OBJECTIVE: This work aims to characterize and label the data coherence across sites in the first European multicenter dataset for cancer prevention in people and early detection among the homeless population in Europe: coadapting and implementing the health navigator model. This dataset emerged to enable research to address disparities in health chal

Would Provision of Take Home Naloxone Kits by Emergency Medical Services be Perceived as Acceptable to People at Risk of Opioid Overdose? A Qualitative Study.

OBJECTIVES: Take home naloxone kits can reduce mortality, but we know little about how they are perceived by people with lived experience of opioid use. Provision of naloxone in the community has been shown to significantly reduce mortality from opioid overdose. Currently, this is predominantly through drug treatment support services but expanding provision through other services might be effective in increasing kit take-up and mortality reduction. This study aimed to examine participants' experiences of opiate overdose and acceptability of provision of naloxone kits through ambulance/paramedi

Evaluating COVID-19 impact, vaccination, birth registration, and underreporting in a predominantly indigenous population in Chiapas, Mexico.

BACKGROUND: Indigenous populations globally face significant health disparities compared to non-Indigenous groups, primarily due to marginalization and limited access to healthcare. In Mexico, which is home to the largest Indigenous population in the Americas, these disparities were further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, with impacts intensified by factors such as marginalization, discrimination, and inadequate access to essential services. METHODS: This study aimed to investigate the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on mortality, vaccination access and uptake, and official birth registratio

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate? Experiences of COVID-19 vaccine uptake among people living with non-communicable diseases in Ghana: A qualitative study.

Following the development of a vaccine for COVID-19, the expectation was instantaneous widespread distribution and uptake to halt further spread, severe illness and deaths from the virus. However, studies show very low uptake, especially in resource-poor settings, and little is documented about the drivers of vaccine uptake in populations classified as high-risk. In this study, we explored access and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines among people living with non-communicable diseases (PLWNCDs) in Ghana. A qualitative study using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions was conducted among adu

A potentially lifesaving error: unintentional high-dose adrenaline administration in anaphylaxis-induced cardiac arrest; a case report.

BACKGROUND: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a crucial skill for emergency medical services. As high-risk-low-frequency events pose an immense mental load to providers, concepts of crew resource management, non-technical skills and the science of human errors are intended to prepare healthcare providers for high-pressure situations. However, medical errors occur, and organizations and institutions face the challenge of providing a blame-free error culture to achieve continuous improvement by avoiding similar errors in the future. In this case, we report a critical medical error during an anaph

Exploring and prioritizing content to include in a medication self-management toolkit for persons with spinal cord injury/dysfunction: A concept mapping approach.

BACKGROUND: Adults with spinal cord injury/dysfunction (SCI/D) face challenges with medications they take to manage their secondary conditions (e.g., pain, urinary tract infections, autonomic dysreflexia). With many healthcare providers typically involved in care, there are additional challenges with care fragmentation and self-management. Prior research emphasized the desire for more support with medication self-management among this population. OBJECTIVE: To explore what content should be included in a medication self-management resource (i.e., toolkit) for adults with SCI/D, as well as con

Integrated analysis of single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing data identifies the characteristics of ferroptosis in lumbar disc herniation.

Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is the most common condition associated with low back pain, and it adversely impacts individuals' health. Ferroptosis has recently emerged as a novel factor in the pathogenesis of LDH; however, the specific impacts of ferroptosis on LDH have not been fully elucidated. Ferroptosis-related differentially expressed genes (FRDEGs) were identified from the transcriptomic datasets of LDH. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was conducted to identify biological mechanism and related pathways. LASSO and SVM-RFE algorithms were applied to detect signature genes. Function of

The incidence burden of unreported pedestrian crashes in Illinois.

OBJECTIVE: Communities with high rates of pedestrians struck by motor vehicles may miss out on mitigation resources and suffer worse medical outcomes if crashes there go unreported to police. This study investigates the places, people, and communities in Illinois where struck pedestrians are most likely to go unreported. A better understanding of the true burden and distribution of struck pedestrians will help guide policy and direct investments and interventions where they are most needed. METHODS: Hospital records of pedestrians treated for injuries sustained by a motor vehicle that were no

'We have goals but [it is difficult]'. Barriers to antiretroviral therapy adherence among women using alcohol and other drugs living with HIV in South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Women living with HIV who misuse alcohol and live in economically disadvantaged settings in South Africa experience a multitude of contextual barriers as they navigate the HIV care continuum. The Women's Health CoOp (WHC), a brief, woman-focused, behavioural, evidence-based intervention, has been shown to be effective in reducing heavy drinking and improving HIV-related outcomes among this key population. However, these women face other broader socioecological barriers to antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. METHODS: The WHC was implemented in a modified, stepped-wedge implemen

Diagnostic performance of a Recombinant Polymerase Amplification Test-Lateral Flow (RPA-LF) for cutaneous leishmaniasis in an endemic setting of Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Control of cutaneous leishmaniasis by public health systems in the Americas relies on case identification and treatment. Point-of-care diagnostics that can be performed by health workers within or near affected communities could effectively bring the health system to the resource-limited sites providing early diagnosis and treatment, reducing morbidity and the burden of disease. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: A cross-sectional study was undertaken to evaluate the diagnostic test performance of Isothermal Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (RPA) targeting Leishmania kinetoplast
