Those aged 60 years and older number 41 million, forming 7% of India's population. The suicide rate among the elderly is higher than the national rate. The data derived from the Government of India Statistics, from suicide prevention centers, suicide autopsies, geropsychiatric clinics, and survey studies indicate that suicide in the elderly is increasing. Depressive disease is the leading cause for suicide, followed by physical diseases and poverty. A retrospective analysis of 45 cases of condyloma acuminata seen at the gynecology clinic of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital between January 1976 and December 1985 was carried out. The prevalence of condyloma acuminata was found to be highest in the single, young and sexually active age group. There was no definite trend in the yearly incidence of vulval warts. A cross sectional study was conducted in two rural communities of Varanasi during the period from January to December 1978 to find out the problem of endemic goitre. The overall prevalence of goitre was as high as 28.44% with 9.45% of adolescent (13-18 years) population having grade I enlargement. The highest prevalence was observed in 7-12 years of age group, the females being consistently more affected in all the age groups. The prevalence of goitre and iodine level of drinking water found to have an inverse relationship.

Six newborns with Listeria monocytogenes infection were admitted to the same neonatal unit between 31 October and 3 December 1985. The index case, a preterm baby, was born to a mother who was febrile with an influenza-like illness at the time of delivery. This baby presented with Listeria sepsis and pneumonia. Another child was born from whose mother L. monocytogenes was isolated from the cervix with the same serotype as that in the CSF of her newborn.
