Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) represents a recent addition to the refractive surgeon's range of procedures. Although there remains a number of similarities to existing techniques in terms of patient selection and treatment parameters, consideration is required to optimise patient outcomes and satisfaction. Here, we review the selection criteria, contraindications, indications and existing published safety and efficacy outcomes.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the national trends in surgical management of ovarian torsion (OT) in children. The Nationwide Inpatient Sample was queried from 1998 to 2011 for females less than 18 years of age with OT. Patients were stratified into three treatment groups: oophorectomy (OO), oophoropexy, or release of torsion (RT) alone. There were 2041 patients with OT, of which 1598 (78%) underwent OO, 126 (6%) oophoropexy, and 317 (15%) RT. RT significantly increased from 1998 to 2011 (9% vs 25%; P < 0.05). OBJECTIVES: To analyze the outcomes with mid- to long-term follow-up of laparoscopic ureterolysis (LU) and omental wrapping in retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) with obstructive uropathy.

OBJECTIVES: We describe our experience of intraoperative and postoperative complications of cochlear implantation in an adult population.
METHODS: Between April 1986 and June 2010, the senior author (A.S.) performed 449 cochlear implantations in two different institutions. Of these, 212 implantations were in adults. The operative techniques were similar in all cases.

BACKGROUND: Shprintzen-Goldberg syndrome (SGS) is characterized by craniosynostosis and marfanoid habitus. The clinical findings of SGS include neurological, cardiovascular, connective tissue, and skeletal abnormalities. AIM: Mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver is an entity with a varied presentation and frequent initial delay in diagnosis. The macroscopic appearance too is quite heterogeneous with solid, cystic and mixed variants being present with varying degrees of vascularity.
