We report the successful use of a percutaneous, totally transvenous endocardial approach to atrioventricular pacing and internal cardiac defibrillation in an adult patient with tetralogy of Fallot who had undergone three previous cardiac operations, including a tricuspid valve replacement. An American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) breeding facility using male and female alligators raised from artificially incubated eggs was established in 1975. These alligators first reproduced at 6 years of age as compared to 10-12 years in wild alligators, but the eggs produced showed a lower hatching rate than those collected from the wild. This work reports kinetic and equilibrium studies of cadmium(II) and lead(II) adsorption by the brown seaweed Cystoseira baccata. Kinetic experiments demonstrated rapid metal uptake. Kinetic data were satisfactorily described by a pseudo-second order chemical sorption process. Temperature change from 15 to 45 degrees C showed small variation on kinetic parameters. Laboratory studies were conducted to evaluate Proisotoma minuta sensitivity toward selected heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn). The experimental results showed a reduction in adult survival and no reproduction at the highest concentrations of Cd and Zn. Children residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who were enrolled in a clinical trial of oral chelation therapy (n=73) were studied to determine the effects of a follow-up professional lead dust cleaning of their homes 18 mo after an initial cleaning and commencement of therapy. Home dust lead levels were determined from dust-wipe specimens collected from the kitchen and playroom floors, and from a playroom windowsill, prior to, immediately following, and 3 and 6 mo after the second cleaning. We report the case of a 23-month-old male with hypotonia, developmental delay, and complex seizures. Radiographs revealed profound sclerosis of the metaphyses and epiphyses of the long and short bones in the extremities, with a unique pattern of distribution. Sclerosis also involved the anterior ribs, iliac crests, talus, and calcaneus. The skull and vertebral bodies appeared unaffected. Blood lead levels were normal.
