BACKGROUND: The effects of topical application of sucralfate (SCF) on the tissue content of MUC-2 protein have not yet been evaluated in experimental models of diversion colitis.

BACKGROUND: Teratomas of the greater omentum are rare. In most cases, they are composed of mature tissue elements and behave clinically in a benign fashion.
CASE: A 62-year-old woman with a history of bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy due to ectopic pregnancy was found to have multiple cystic teratomas of the omentum. There was a histologic evidence of a sequential transition from benign through borderline to obviously invasive adenocarcinoma within the lining of the cysts as well as peritoneal dissemination.

We report a case involving a 55-year-old healthy man that presented with urinary retention and a lower abdominal mass. His evaluation revealed a large mucocele arising from the appendix that caused severe bilateral ureteral obstruction and renal failure. Appendiceal mucoceles are rare and insidious entities that can present with urologic manifestation. Despite their rarity, this case highlights the importance of including mucoceles in the differential diagnosis in cases involving ureteral obstruction caused by external compression.

We describe a case of urachal adenocarcinoma arising in a 30-year-old woman. The patient underwent partial cystectomy. Three years later, she presented with an isolated metastasis to a thoracic vertebra, which was treated by vertebral corporectomy. Histologic findings are described, and the clinical findings, management, and metastatic patterns of this rare tumor, as well as the differential diagnosis on a biopsy specimen, are discussed.

BACKGROUND: Tumid lupus erythematosus (TLE) is a subtype of discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) whose clinical characteristics rarely have been described in the literature.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical, histopathologic, and other laboratory findings in tumid lupus erythematosus.
METHODS: Clinical and laboratory findings were reviewed in four patients who had been diagnosed with tumid lupus erythematosus by conventional microscopy. The diagnoses were characterized by a superficial and deep perivascular infiltrate of lymphocytes and deposits of mucin in foci in the reticular dermis.

A case of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the maxillary sinus, locally aggressive, in a 65 years old man is presented. Clinical diagnosis of adenocarcinoma was suspected but the pathological study showed an anaplastic morphology, with little plasmacytic differentiation and lack of stain with cytokeratins and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), immunohistochemical marker of plasmatic cells, among others. Definitive diagnosis was based on light chain restriction and lack of multiple myeloma.

BACKGROUND: Renal tract neoplasms account for only 15% of all cases of hematuria and are rare before the age of 40. Few cases of bladder carcinoma diagnosed during pregnancy have been reported.
CASE: Adenocarcinoma of the dome of the bladder caused hematuria beginning at 20 weeks' gestation but was not diagnosed until the postpartum period.
CONCLUSION: Hematuria during pregnancy is usually associated with infection. However, neoplasms must be included in the differential diagnosis.

Fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology carried out on 1318 primary breast cancers from 1980 to 1986 inclusive showed that 198 were well recognised, histological special types.
