BACKGROUND: In recent years, endoscopic treatment of pelvic ring injuries has emerged. In addition to the complex 3D anatomy of the bony pelvis, a particular challenge is its embedding in the surrounding soft tissue structures. It is known from other surgical specialties that the preparation can be facilitated by using surgical robot systems.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a patient with an open-book injury of the pelvic ring, a symphysis plate was performed using the DaVinci system.
RESULTS: We describe the robotic-assisted osteosynthesis on the anterior pelvic ring with available instruments.

INTRODUCTION: Uncertainty regarding the timing of weight bearing following ankle open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) in patients with different ankle fracture patterns remains. Traditional rehabilitation methods, including six weeks of non-weight bearing (NWB), is still a common approach in many hospitals, while some previous evidence has shown immediate weight bearing (IWB) to be beneficial.
METHOD: 32 adult participants with unimalleolar, bimalleolar or trimalleolar ankle fractures and stable fixation following ankle ORIF will be randomly allocated to either Immediate Weight Bearing (IW

Lisfranc injury is extremely rare in the pediatric population and little evidence exists to guide the treatment at this age. We present a clinical case of a rare Lisfranc fracture-dislocation at pediatric age. An 11-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department, in October 2020, after a motorcycle incident. He was diagnosed with a Lisfranc fracture-dislocation of the right foot: Myerson type B2. Fourteen days after the injury, he underwent surgical treatment with open reduction and internal fixation with 3.5 mm solid fully threaded screws. At 18 months postoperative, the patient was a

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Periprosthetic fractures are a growing concern due to the increasing frequency of primary joint replacement surgery, with total hip arthroplasty being the most common. The incidence of periprosthetic fractures after revision surgery ranges from 4 to 11 %, with up to 30 % reported after knee revision surgery. This case report aims to describe the treatment of an 81-year-old woman suffering from neglected periprosthetic femoral fracture post hemiarthroplasty.
CASE PRESENTATION: An 81-year-old woman with a history of hemiarthroplasty surgery and hypertension was admi

Fixation is critical in zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures to avoid malunion; however, controversy exists as to how much hardware is required to achieve adequate stability. Current fixation regimens may not represent the minimum stabilization needed for uneventful healing. Craniomaxillofacial (CMF) computational models have shown limited load transmission through the infraorbital rim (IOR), and a previous experimental study of ZMC fractures has suggested that IOR plating does not alter CMF bone strain patterns. This study aimed to measure the impact of stabilization on fracture site d

BACKGROUND: The treatment of fractures of the radial head is commonly based on the Mason classification. Fractures of the radial head caused by a dislocation of the elbow are summarized as Mason type IV fractures. The purpose of this study was to investigate the outcome and the influence of additional ligamentous injuries after reconstruction of fractures of the radial head.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred three patients with a fracture of the radial head were treated by open reduction and internal fixation between 2004 and 2009. Fifty-eight of them could be evaluated at an average of 3.6 y

UNLABELLED: Seizure induced fractures are uncommon and usually involve long bone fractures like proximal humerus, proximal femur, shoulder dislocations etc. These occur due to intense muscle contractions or may result from indirect trauma post-seizure episode in the patient. Acetabulum fracture with central head dislocation, as seen in this case, is very rare following a seizure episode. It was further complicated by the presence of Hepatitis-B and dialysis dependent CKD both of which impact the surgical outcomes as well as pose challenges in the management of patient in the perioperative peri

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to compare the antiosteoporotic efficacy of zoledronic acid (ZOL) with denosumab (DEN) in osteoporosis patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
METHODS: This was a prospective, open-label, nonrandomized clinical study. Osteoporotic women with T2DM aged 50 to 80 years were enrolled and assigned to either the ZOL group (n = 45) or the DEN group (n = 75) based on patient preference. The efficacy endpoint included the percent change from baseline in bone mineral density (BMD), bone turnover markers, and the fracture risk evaluated by the fracture risk assessment

Fractures secondary to seizure activity are a well-known complication in patients with epilepsy; however, periprosthetic fractures following total hip arthroplasty (THA) due to seizures are rarely documented. Nonadherence to anti-epileptic medications (AEMs) significantly increases the risk of seizure recurrence, particularly in individuals with a history of seizure-induced skeletal trauma. We present the case of a 27-year-old male with a documented history of epilepsy who sustained a right periprosthetic femoral fracture following a generalized tonic-clonic seizure. One year prior, the patien

Osteonecrosis of the humeral trochlea is an uncommon but challenging complication of pediatric elbow fractures. We herein report a case of osteonecrosis of the trochlea, a rare and delayed complication of a supracondylar humerus fracture that led to a chronic dislocation of the ulna. A five-year-old boy arrived at the Emergency Room following a fall from a tree on an outstretched hand with an extended elbow. Radiographic studies of the right elbow confirmed the diagnosis of right supracondylar fracture. Open reduction and internal fixation by two Kirschner wires was carried out, followed by im

A dislocation or break of the tarsometatarsal joint in the foot is referred to as a Lisfranc fracture, sometimes called a Lisfranc injury. It can be caused by less stressful mechanisms like a twisting fall as well as high-energy events like car crashes or falls from heights. Swelling, bruises, and midfoot pain that gets worse when standing or walking are some of the symptoms. The damage may only affect the ligaments or the foot's bony structures. Nonoperative or surgical treatment may be part of the management, depending on how severe the injury is. In order to realign and stabilize the bones,

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy-associated osteoporosis (PAO) is a rare condition characterized by reduced bone mineral density during the third trimester or lactation. Multiple risk factors, such as genetic, sedentariness, and 25-hydroxy vitamin D deficiency, are associated with PAO. In the majority of cases, PAO is presented with a compression fracture in vertebras, but in our case, it presented with a fracture of the femoral neck. Case Presentation: A 29-year-old, gravida one woman, developed right hip joint pain during the gestational age 34 weeks who referred to our clinic. Despite conservative man

INTRODUCTION: Perilunate and lunate dislocations are uncommon high energy injuries and have extensive soft tissue, cartilaginous and bony damage. The most common pattern is trans-scaphoid perilunate fracture dislocation which constitutes approximately 50% of these injuries. Unusual injury pattern like Scaphocapitate syndrome can occur with fracture through scaphoid waist and capitate that rotates the proximal capitate 180° so that its proximal articular surface points distally. With this case report, we would like to present a novel presentation of an uncommon wrist injury.

BACKGROUND: Operative treatment of displaced proximal humeral fractures often results in poor functional outcome. We report a technique that provides improved rotational stability of the fracture and thus allows early functional treatment.
METHODS: Seventy-one consecutive patients (67 +/- 18 years) with displaced fractures of the proximal humerus (two-part, n = 10; three-part, n = 41; four-part, n = 20) were treated by open reduction and internal fixation using two one-third tubular plates on the anterior and lateral aspects of the proximal humerus. Passive motion was started on the third pos
