An Exploration of Help-seeking Experiences of Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease From Healthcare Professionals: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) presents ongoing physical, psychological, and social challenges that can significantly affect quality of life. Despite this, little is known about how individuals with IBD seek help from healthcare professionals. This study used a qualitative descriptive design and latent pattern content analysis of semi-structured interviews (n = 8) to explore how individuals living with IBD seek help from healthcare professionals to manage challenges associated with their condition. The study adheres to the COREQ guidelines. Many participants delayed seeking help until sympto

Facebook as a Lifeboat: An Interview Study Exploring the Role of Facebook in Supporting Parents of Children with Rare Diseases.

Parents of children with rare diseases face unique challenges due to scarce medical expertise and limited information sources. Social media, particularly Facebook, have become a vital (and sometimes the only) space for parents to access information, share experiences, and find emotional support. This study examined how parents of children with an ultra-rare genetic condition [FOXP1] engage with a Facebook group. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 19 parents across eight countries and analyzed using thematic analysis. Based on the results, we developed the "Phased Social Media Engag

Dysfunctional connectivity within hippocampal and entorhinal networks underlies early-life iron deficiency induced social recognition deficits, a preliminary study.

Early-life iron deficiency (EID) has an adverse effect on cognition. Previous MRI studies revealed that EID could produce brain structural changes, while the significance remains elusive. To elucidate correlative functional changes is thus important. A low-iron diet feeding protocol was used to produce EID in rats, and a three-chamber test was used to evaluate social recognitions. T2-weighted and functional MRI (fMRI) were employed to conduct voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and voxel-wise functional connectivity (FC) analyses. Seed-based FC analyses were conducted, and based on the results, the

Population density constrains coexistence of cooperative and cheating Kluyveromyces lactis through frequency-dependent physical interactions.

Coexistence between cooperative and cheating individuals remains a central puzzle in social evolution. Here, we investigate how population density modulates coexistence using Kluyveromyces lactis strains that interact via physical attachment. Snowflake (cooperative) strains flocculate into multicellular clusters that settle efficiently, while Co-Uni (cheater) strains remain planktonic unless attached to Snowflakes, enabling them to exploit settling benefits without contributing to cluster formation. We manipulated settling density over 15 transfers (~60 generations) to alter encounter rates be

Racialized vulnerability and socioeconomic determinants of health among Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Afghan refugees face persistent poverty, social marginalization, and restricted access to healthcare in Pakistan, making them one of the world's largest and longest-displaced groups. Health disparities have been made worse by decades of instability, especially among marginalized groups living in informal urban settlements and refugee camps. With an emphasis on how income, education, and legal status affect health outcomes and healthcare access, this study explores the socioeconomic determinants and health burdens among Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan. Between January and June 2025, 250 Af

Who plays a more crucial role in adolescent well-being: Interactions with parents or peers? An investigation of adolescents aged 10 to 18 years.

Adolescence is a critical period during which interactions with parents and peers play key roles in shaping mental well-being, yet there is ongoing debate regarding their relative importance. To address this gap, this research examines the relationships among communication with parents, social interactions with peers, and adolescents' mental well-being using data from 33,824 Chinese adolescents (ages 10-18 years, Mage = 13.55, 47.43% female) across three data collection waves. A random intercepts cross-lagged panel model (RI-CLPM) was combined with local structural equation modeling (LSEM) to

Resilience among bereaved siblings of homicide and traffic accidents in Japan.

Background: Siblings bereaved by homicide or accidents are often referred to as the forgotten bereaved because they face difficulties in accessing adequate support. Globally, research focusing directly on siblings' perspectives remains scarce, and studies specifically addressing siblings' resilience are almost absent in Japan. A deeper understanding of siblings' experiences is required to develop support systems that acknowledge their emotions and strengthen their resilience. Objective: This study aimed to clarify the psychological transformation processes of bereaved siblings in Japan, focusin

Facilitators and Barriers for Participation in Physical Activity Among Norwegian Physically Active First-Year Students: A Qualitative Study.

Regular physical activity is essential for physical and mental health, yet participation among Norwegian university students remains below nationally recommended levels. This study explored facilitators and barriers for physical activity among first-year students, using the COM-B model as a conceptual framework. Fifteen physically active first-year students from two higher education campuses in Bodø were interviewed in spring 2025, and the data were analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Analysis showed that students' activity behaviours were shaped by a dynamic interaction between physic

The interplay of complex PTSD, intimate partner violence, and metacognitive beliefs in driving methamphetamine craving among women: A structural equation modeling study.

Craving is a core clinical feature associated with relapse and poorer treatment outcomes in substance use disorders (SUDs), particularly among women. The present study examined psychological and interpersonal factors contributing to craving among women diagnosed with methamphetamine use disorder, with a specific focus on complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and intimate partner violence (IPV). Using structural equation modeling, the study tested whether CPTSD and IPV were directly associated with craving and whether perceived social support and metacognitive beliefs about desire thin

Rhythmic Structure Shapes Dyadic Self-Other Representations Through Interpersonal Action Coupling.

Moving in unison to a musical beat can blur boundaries between individual movements, fostering prosociality. However, structured patterns of sounds and silences in rhythms (meter) allow various ways of moving to the beat. How do these different rhythmic interpretations affect social connectedness? Unacquainted dyads drummed in unison, and at more complex integer multiple and polyrhythmic ratios. Coordination requires continuously tracking who does what and when. We varied trackability by manipulating task-sharing (the same or separate drum pads, and audible or inaudible partner drumming). More

Phenotypic Characterization of Five Children With PACS1-NDD: Longitudinal Insights Into Development, Behavior, and Brain.

PACS1 neurodevelopmental disorder (PACS1-NDD), also known as Schuurs-Hoeijmakers syndrome, is a rare genetic condition caused by a recurrent de novo mutation in the PACS1 gene. Autistic traits have been reported in PACS1-NDD, but systematic longitudinal assessments are lacking. We followed five children (3 females) with genetically confirmed PACS1-NDD, aged 1.4-6.2 years at entry, over 2-3.5 years (29 assessments). Measures included standardized behavioral and cognitive assessments, eye-tracking, and structural MRI. Data were compared to 357 autistic and 123 typically developing children from
