Tinnitus Measured in Everyday Life: A Literature Review of Ecological Momentary Assessment Studies.

Tinnitus, a common auditory phenomenon, often presents with considerable between-person heterogeneity and within-person fluctuations. To understand the pathophysiological mechanisms and advance patient-centred care, it is essential to recognise these variations. Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) is a (close-to) real-time data collection method that offers insights into short- and long-term fluctuations of subjective symptoms and their interaction with psychological, environmental, and physiological factors. EMA applied in tinnitus research has shown promise in capturing the nuances of tinn

Evaluating the reliability and validity of the 12-item WHODAS 2.0 among people with mental health conditions in seven low- and middle-income countries: analysis of secondary data.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0) has been validated across various settings and health conditions. However, few studies have evaluated the 12-item WHODAS 2.0 within low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) among individuals with mental health conditions. AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the 12-item WHODAS 2.0 in populations with depression, anxiety and psychosis from seven LMICs. METHOD: Secondary analyses were carried out using existing longitudinal data-sets in adult populations with depression, anxiety a

Non-pharmacological Management of Fibrosing Interstitial Lung Diseases.

Non-pharmacological interventions are integral to the multidisciplinary management of fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), complementing pharmacological therapies by addressing functional decline, symptom burden, and quality of life. Palliative care is fundamental, offering a structured approach to symptom control-particularly dyspnea- and facilitating advance care planning. Oxygen therapy may provide symptomatic benefit in patients with resting, nocturnal, or exertional hypoxemia, though evidence remains limited and extrapolated mainly from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis cohorts. Assessment of cough in asthma patients attending clinic using the cough questionnaire for asthma (CQA).

BACKGROUND: Cough is a common and troublesome symptom in asthma that can persist despite treatment, but there is no tool to specifically assess cough in asthma patients. We developed the Cough Questionnaire for Asthma (CQA) to evaluate cough severity and its impact in asthma patients. METHODS: We developed an 8-item questionnaire to assess cough severity and its impact, which was later refined to a 6-item version (CQA6). The questionnaire was validated in 289 asthma patients attending a hospital asthma clinic. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Concurrent validity was e

Concerns and Goals of Women with Isolated Mesh-Associated Pain Syndrome Accessing a Quaternary Mesh Referral Service: A Thematic Analysis.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Isolated mesh-associated pain syndrome (I-MAPS) is the commonest reason why women access mesh-complication services. Qualitative work exploring expectations of women with I-MAPS is limited. We aimed to explore the concerns and goals of women with I-MAPS who accessed care at a quaternary-level mesh service to ensure that services are designed to meet their needs. METHODS: A total of 280 women with I-MAPS related to a single continence device, were invited to provide free-text comments on concerns and goals related to their mesh complication using the Electronic Pat

Effect of self-stigma on personal recovery: sex differences in people with psychotic spectrum disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Recently, there has been growing evidence on self-stigma and personal recovery in people with psychotic spectrum disorders. However, despite the influence of sex on mental health and the social component of self-stigma and recovery, the evidence regarding self-stigma, personal recovery, and sex is limited and inconsistent. This research aims to study the role of sex in the effect that self-stigma has on the personal recovery of people with psychotic spectrum disorders. METHODS: A sample of 118 patients with a psychosis diagnose participated in the study (55.9% men). They were re

Revealing distinct treatment mechanisms and outcome correlations in patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome after different bladder therapies through urinary biomarker analysis.

PURPOSE: Urinary cytokine changes may serve as biomarkers to assess treatment outcomes for interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). This study analyzed the changes in urinary cytokines following various bladder therapies and explored their clinical significance in therapeutic mechanisms. METHODS: A total of 122 patients with IC/BPS treated with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), botulinum toxin-A (BoTN-A), hyaluronic acid (HA), or low-energy shock wave (LESW) were evaluated. Urinary inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers were measured at baseline and at 3 months posttreatment. Tre

Endometriosis: pathophysiology and the potential role of diet.

Endometriosis (ENDO) is a chronic, estrogen-dependent condition affecting over 190 million females worldwide. Characterized by cyclic pelvic pain, infertility, and systemic inflammation, its symptoms profoundly impact quality of life, interfering with mental health, relationships, education, work, and sexual well-being. Despite this burden, treatment options remain limited. For symptom relief, many females turn to self-management strategies, particularly dietary modifications. This review explores the relationship between ENDO, quality of life, and diet. First, we summarize the ENDO classifica

Trends in remission rates for rheumatoid arthritis in England and Wales: a population-level cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: Considerable data support early treatment of RA to obtain disease remission. Data from the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (NEIAA) in England and Wales suggest that, despite recent improvements in referral-to-treatment times, remission rates remain unchanged. We investigated reasons for this disconnect by evaluating temporal trends, geographical variation and predictors of remission in individuals with new RA diagnoses. METHODS: An observational cohort study of individuals with RA was conducted using data from NEIAA (May 2018-April 2024). Temporal and geographical vari

The Impact of Insomnia on the Clinical Course and Treatment Outcomes of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia is markedly more prevalent in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients than in the general population and is closely linked to pain, fatigue, psychological comorbidities, and systemic inflammation. Evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship, where active disease worsens sleep quality, while poor sleep amplifies inflammatory activity and symptom severity. METHODS: A narrative review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase to identify studies from the last 15 years involving adult RA patients. Inclusion criteria required assessment of insomnia or sleep
