OBJECTIVE: To describe the epidemiology, clinical features, laboratory findings, outcome and the difficulties in diagnosis and management of children with Hemo-phagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in a tertiary children's hospital in India.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis of case records of all the children with a diagnosis of HLH from December 2006 to December 2008.
SETTING: Tertiary care children's teaching hospital in Chennai, India.

A retrospective data analysis from records of patients from medical record section of department of gynecology and obstetric, S. N. Medical College and Hospital, Agra was done to find out the trend and causes of maternal mortality occurred during 1999-2007. The maternal deaths in the context of different causes were analyzed. An education program for GPs about treating patients with depressive disorders and panic disorders was implemented in one district in the year 1998. A neighboring district was used as a control. Although the educational program was followed by an increase in referrals for panic disorder in the target district, there was no impact on referrals for depressive disorders, the prescribing of antidepressants by the GPs, or the suicide rate.

BACKGROUND AND METHODS: We reviewed 4 dozen health education brochures on the dangers of smokeless tobacco (ST) use, printed between 1981 and 2001 and available to the public in 2002. Collectively, these brochures state that ST use causes oral leukoplakia, other oral conditions, and cancers of the oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, lung, breast, prostate, bladder, and kidney. We then reviewed the scientific literature to determine whether these claims were substantiated.

BACKGROUND: Inappropriate use of hospital services, in the form of unjustified hospital stay days (HSD), constitutes a major burden on a health budget. Reduction of unjustified HSD was achieved in a medical ward in a previous intervention study.
METHODS: A controlled intervention aimed at reducing unjustified hospital stay was performed on 155 paediatric inpatients and 248 controls, by applying pre-set criteria for hospitalization and comparing to results in previous studies.
RESULTS: Unjustified stay was decreased from 32.6% to 14.8% on the study ward, and from 25.7% to 19.3% on the control

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The role of emergency physicians in trials of acute stroke therapy is expanding. We investigated the ability of emergency physicians to accurately identify patients with stroke.
METHODS: We reviewed all 446 patients who were evaluated in the emergency department and had an inpatient admitting or discharge diagnosis of ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke from May 1, 1992, to June 30, 1993. The final admitting diagnosis made by the emergency physician was compared with the final hospital discharge diagnosis, 95% of which were made by neurologists or neurosurgeons.

The purpose was a descriptive account of the academic characteristics of 35 adults (22 men and 13 women) who perceived themselves as needing help in reading. Although several studies have shown that sarcoidosis and tuberculosis are the most common causes of granulomatous hepatitis (GH), these studies were biased because results of unselected liver biopsies and autopsy reports were included.
