AIMS: To investigate the abnormalities of the coronary venous system in candidates for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and describe methods for circumventing the resulting difficulties.
METHODS: From four implanting institutes, data of all CRT implants between October 2008 and October 2020 were screened for abnormal cardiac venous anatomy, defined as an anatomical variation not conforming to the accepted 'normal' anatomy. Patient demographics, procedural detail, and subsequent left ventricle (LV) lead pacing indices were collected.
RESULTS: From a total of 3548 CRT implants, 15 (0.42

OBJECTIVE: To study the possibilities and results of reconstruction of caval veins.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analyzed the results of reconstruction of caval veins in 31 patients (19 men and 12 women) including superior vena cava (SVC) in 5 cases and inferior vena cava (IVC) in 26 cases. Penetrating wounds with vascular damage were found in 8 patients. Iatrogenic damage to IVC was observed in 19 patients (nephrectomy for kidney cancer - 2, nephrectomy for secondary kidney wrinkling - 1, echinococcectomy from retroperitoneal space - 1, adrenalectomy for adrenal tumors - 5, right-sided lumbar sy

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a spectrum of congenital cardiovascular abnormalities. It is most commonly found as an incidental finding. However, it can lead to severe pulmonary hypertension depending on the magnitude of the shunt involved. We report a case of a 60-year-old female patient with PAPVR detected incidentally on imaging. We aim to highlight the incidence of PAPVR in adults and to elaborate on its unique association with a duplicated superior vena cava.

We present a case in which the superior vena cava (SVC) cannula was inadvertently clamped for a short while during cardiopulmonary bypass, completely occluding SVC drainage. This resulted in a rarely seen complication - bilateral subperiosteal orbital hematomas causing orbital compartment syndrome. Other instances of intentional SVC occlusion include during the creation of a bidirectional cavo-pulmonary shunt and for emergency control of bleeding during thoracic surgery.

Scimitar syndrome is a rare malformation defined as the partial or total anomalous pulmonary venous return of the right lung veins to the inferior vena cava just above or below the diaphragm. Severe forms of the disease are diagnosed in infancy and childhood. However, because of the mild form of the syndrome in adult patients, they remain asymptomatic and few cases are reported in the literature. We report two adults cases of this syndrome with one presenting with chest discomfort.

Venous aneurysms are rare lesions, they have been reported in most venous territories. Abdominal location is unusual. A 61-year-old man presented with chest pain and dyspnea attributed to pulmonary embolism. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed multiple thrombosed venous aneurysms of the left external iliac vein and the inferior vena cava. There were no signs of rupture. The patient received anticoagulant treatment. He had no surgical treatment.

Thymic carcinomas are rare neplasm. The standard treatment for advanced thymic carcinoma has not yet been established, and the prognosis is poor. We report 3 cases of thymic carcinoma involving major vessely. Case 1:The aortic arch and the innominate vein were involved. Case 2:The left brachiocephalic vein was involved. Case 3:Tumor invaded to superior vena cava. Complete resection of the tumor was possible with vascular reconstruction.

A 10-year-old cat presented with a history of unexplained ascites. Ultrasound and angiography identified an isolated stenosis of the middle hepatic vein resulting in Budd-Chiari Syndrome. Balloon dilation of the stenosis was attempted but the patient expired. Necropsy revealed a discrete membranous stenosis at the junction of the caudal vena cava and the middle hepatic vein. The literature was reviewed to assess clinical and diagnostic findings, as well as therapeutic options in humans with hepatic vein stenosis.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection with infradiaphragmatic drainage into the inferior vena cava (scimitar syndrome) constitutes a rare diagnosis in adults. Diagnosis is suggested by plain chest roentgenogram and confirmed by computed tomography angiography or magnetic resonance imaging. Reported operations for scimitar syndrome are complex, often requiring circulatory arrest. Reoperation for pulmonary vein stenosis is a troubling complication. We report an effective simplified operation for use in adults.

A seven month old female child admitted to intensive care unit with increasing respiratory distress. Clinical examination revealed absence of cyanosis, wide and fixed normal intensity second heart sound. Chest radiograph revealed crescent like radio opacity in right lower lung and subsequent contrast enhanced computed tomography (CT) chest demonstrated abnormal vessel in right lung draining into the inferior vena cava.

Classic nutcracker syndrome is caused by left renal vein compression between the superior mesenteric artery and aorta, leading to retrograde venous hypertension associated with such urinary abnormalities as hematuria or proteinuria. We describe a case of symptomatic nutcracker syndrome treated by means of stent placement in which hypertension in the left renal vein was caused by stenosis of this vein compressed by an aberrant right renal artery at a point closer to the inferior vena cava.

Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) injury is a rare event during abdominal surgery. We report the first case of inadvertent injury of the superior mesenteric artery during surgery of a large malignant adrenocortical tumor with inferior vena cava thrombus. The cause of inadvertent injury was anatomical distortion of the great vessels due to the massive nature of the tumor. The case was managed successfully by immediate end-to-end anastomosis of the superior mesenteric artery.

Infarction of the cardiac atria occurs more frequently than is commonly considered. Ischemic damage to the atrial myocardium is usually associated with infarction of cardiac ventricles, but isolated infarction of an atrium can occur and may be of clinical significance. We present an unusual case of an isolated right atrial infarct with an infarction-related endocardial thrombus that mimicked a mass lesion near the inferior vena cava. The presentation and causes of isolated atrial infarction are discussed.

Renal cell carcinoma has the tendency to form venous thrombi. This may involve the renal veins or the inferior vena cava and may extend cephalad/antegrade into the right atrium. We report a patient with renal cell carcinoma who had an intracaval tumor thrombus that had extended into the right spermatic vein. We believe this to be the first description in English literature of a histologically proven renal cell carcinoma thrombus in the spermatic vein.

Scimitar syndrome, which involves total or partial anomalous venous drainage of the right lung to the inferior vena cava, is relatively rare and often results in pulmonary hypertension, heart failure and right lung infection. We report here the case of a 1-year-old girl who suffered repeated attacks of bronchospasm after developing pneumonia. She underwent resection of the hypoplastic right lung and showed rapid recovery.
