The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the mini-nuc technique for the removal of brunescent and black cataracts. A prospective study was carried out in 33 eyes of 33 patients with cataract nigra operated with the mini-nuc technique between April 2002 and June 2003. INTRODUCTION: Hemangiomas are the most common tumors of the eyelids and orbit in childhood. These tumors can produce ptosis, strabismus and anisometropia, resulting in amblyopia. The treatment of hemangiomas is a challenge with respect to the functional results (prevention of amblyopia) and cosmetic outcome.

A total of 4810 laser keratomilase surgeries (LASIK) in myopia and hypermetropia were analyzed. The spherical equivalent of clinical refraction in myopia amounted to -6.56 +/- 1.34 diopters, in hypermetropia it amounted to +3.97 +/- 1.74 diopters. PURPOSE: Keratoconus is a gradually progressing disease of unknown cause, characterized by central thinning, increased curvature, and finally scarring of the cornea. This causes myopia and astigmatism and the ultimate treatment is keratoplasty. We studied the composition of basement membranes (BMs) in normal, scarred and keratoconus corneas to find out possible changes specific for keratoconus.

A multizone/multipass photorefractive keratectomy (MP-PRK) technique was used to treat 315 eyes with the 193 nm VISX 20/20 excimer laser.
