Cancer loyalty card study-2 (CLOCS-2): protocol for an observational case-control study focusing on the patient interval in cancer diagnosis.

INTRODUCTION: Some cancers are diagnosed late, making them harder to treat. People with an undiagnosed cancer may use over-the-counter medications to manage non-specific cancer-related symptoms that often mimic other more common, easily treatable conditions. Results from the original Cancer Loyalty Card Study (CLOCS) suggest there may be an increase in purchases of pain and indigestion medication 8-9 months before an ovarian cancer diagnosis. We aim to validate the CLOCS findings by exploring whether a significant change in medication purchases could be an indication for early signs of the fol

Nutrition impact symptoms: Noteworthy prognostic indicators for lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Nutrition impact symptoms (NIS) in head and neck cancer are well-studied and are found to be heavy contributors of poor outcome. However, the prevalence and role of NIS in other cancer are less addressed. In this study, we investigated the incidence and prognostic role of NIS in patients with lung cancer. METHODS: NIS, evaluated by patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) in a multicenter real-world prospective study, included loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcer, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, taste change, altered smell, dysphagia, early satiety, an

Thyroid Cancer, Neuroendocrine Tumor, Adrenal Adenoma, and Other Tumors in a Patient With a Germline PMS1 Mutation.

CONTEXT: Multiple tumors in the same patient suggest a genetic predisposition. Here, we report a patient who presented with several unusual types of malignant and benign tumors, presumably due to a pathogenic germline PMS1 mutation. CASE: A 69-year-old woman presented with a 2-year history of abdominal pain and diarrhea. A computed tomography scan of the abdomen revealed a gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumor (GiNET) with liver metastases and a nonfunctional benign adrenal adenoma. Bilateral large lung nodules were thought to be also metastases from the GiNET but turned out to be differentia

Pleural Effusion as the Initial Presentation of Gastric Adenocarcinoma: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Gastric adenocarcinoma is a common malignancy, representing the third most common cause of cancer-related death globally. Most patients are initially asymptomatic, but as the cancer progresses, patients typically present with vague gastrointestinal complaints, including early satiety, heart burn, vomiting, or abdominal pain. Metastatic gastric cancer is relatively uncommon, with ~26% of patients having metastasis to a single site and 13% having metastases to multiple sites. The most common site of metastasis is the liver, followed by peritoneum, lung, and bone. CASE REPORT In this c

Barriers and Facilitators of Breast Cancer Screening amongst Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Women in South Western Sydney: A Qualitative Explorative Study.

Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer amongst Australian women and the second most common cause of cancer mortality. Despite the proven effectiveness of early intervention, screening rates remain subpar across many regions in New South Wales (NSW). Screening rates are particularly low within the culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) area of South Western Sydney (SWS). The objective of this study was to qualitatively explore barriers and facilitators to breast screening from the perspectives of CALD women from SWS. CALD women aged ≥40 who resided in SWS were invited to partici
