Recent evidence suggests that breastfeeding may increase the risk of vitamin D deficiency in offspring. OBJECTIVES: To describe the clinical presentations and molecular diagnosis to aid the clinicians in early diagnosis and appropriate management of Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS).
METHODS: Thirty-four clinically diagnosed PWS cases were enrolled after obtaining informed consent/assent. Museum and recent collections of raccoon hair were used to assess whether temporal or spatial trends existed in MMHg distributions in south Florida. The hypothesis that MMHg in raccoon hair had remained the same since 1947 could not be rejected. Some sampling regions showed increases while others did not. Male Wistar rats maintained on a thiamine deficient diet showed mouse-killing behavior (muricide). On the 30th day of experimental feeding, the incidence of the muricide was 70%. Intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-l-alanine (l-dopa) suppressed the muricide in a dose-dependent manner.
