INTRODUCTION: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is the most common sarcoma of the skin. Although distant metastases are infrequent, DFSP is highly aggressive locally with frequent local recurrences. It has been reported that the presence within the tumour of areas histopathologically mimicking fibrosarcoma may increase the risk of recurrence.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to review the clinical features of our patients with DFSP and the factors associated with recurrence of the tumour, focussing on the presence of fibrosarcomatous areas.

BACKGROUND: Successful free tissue transfer requires tension-free microvascular anastomosis. Vein grafts are used when this cannot be obtained, which increases microsurgical complexity and the chance of vessel thrombosis. Previous studies on vein grafts are limited to low numbers and selected techniques, making it difficult to draw conclusions.

BACKGROUND: Microvascular free flap reconstruction has become a standard technique in head and neck reconstructive surgery. Pre-operative radiotherapy is associated with a higher incidence of free flap malperfusion and the need for operative revision. Irradiated vessels present characteristic histomorphological and structural changes.
