CASE SUMMARY: A 60-year-old white woman presented to the hospital with community-acquired pneumonia and urinary tract infection. The antibiotic regimen included gentamicin and, after 5 doses, the patient reported profound bilateral hearing loss. The records of adult patients with pneumococcal bacteremia who were seen over an 8-year-period at an 1,100-bed university teaching hospital were reviewed in order to revise the clinical and laboratory findings and to identify the risk factors associated with mortality. We reported a case of ITP associated with chronic subdural hematoma. A 51-year-old female was admitted to our hospital with left frontal pain on November 18, 1995. CT and MRI examinations revealed a left chronic subdural hematoma. Peripheral platelet count showed thrombocytopenia, 5,000/mm3. She was treated preoperatively by administration of steroids, a large dose of immunoglobulin and transfusion of platelet.
