Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) associated with BRCA2 mutation is an extremely rare but increasingly recognized tumor type with characteristic but variable morphological features and aggressive behavior. We report a new case of high‑grade RCC harboring a somatic BRCA2 mutation in a 69‑year‑old male presenting with painless gross hematuria. The tumor exhibited a complex admixture of solid papillary/alveolar, cribriform, and tubulocystic architectures with prominent eosinophilic nucleoli. A biphasic pattern was observed, with central nests of more bland clear cells forming rosette‑like structures aro

BACKGROUND: Epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) is an uncommon renal tumor variant with histologic and radiologic features that can mimic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) on imaging due to the paucity of fat compared to the classic AML. EAML may exhibit aggressive behavior, including local invasion, recurrence, and distant metastases to the liver, lungs, and lymph nodes. Although recent reports suggest that up to one-third of EAML cases may behave malignantly, variability in diagnostic criteria and limited case series contribute to uncertainty regarding its true clinical course.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Thi

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) represents a major therapeutic challenge due to its highly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Over the past decade, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the management of advanced RCC, shifting treatment paradigms from cytokine- and VEGF-based therapies toward immunotherapy-driven strategies. This review highlights the mechanisms of immune evasion in RCC, focusing on the roles of tumor-associated macrophages, regulatory T cells, and cancer-associated fibroblasts, as well as the key checkpoints PD-1/PD-L1 and CTLA-4. We summarize pivotal clin

PURPOSE: To determine opportunities for quality improvement (QI) in patient selection for radical nephrectomy (RN) for cT1 renal masses (cT1RM).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The MUSIC (Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative) registry was queried for RN performed for any localized RM ≤4 cm (cT1aRM) or low/intermediate/unrecorded complexity RM 4 to 7 cm (cT1bRM). Eight experienced kidney surgeons reviewed characteristics (age, GFR, medical comorbidities, RENAL score, tumor size, and more) of de-identified cases. Each reviewer provided a score regarding opportunity for QI (none = 0, min

Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC) is a rare subtype of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). We present a case of a 61-year-old male with ChRCC who exhibited unusual metastasis to the retro-orbital area, a site rarely affected by RCC. The patient experienced diplopia and proptosis, prompting treatment with sunitinib and palliative radiotherapy. Remarkably, rapid improvement in ocular symptoms was observed following radiotherapy. Despite this localized response, the patient's overall condition deteriorated, highlighting the aggressive nature of ChRCC. This case underscores the importance of consid

BACKGROUND: Kidney cancer is a highly prevalent malignancy, consistently ranking among the top ten cancers affecting both men and women, and its mortality has been increasing globally. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type and has a tendency to metastasize, with a predilection for spreading to other organs. While the adrenal gland is located adjacent to the kidney, metastasis of renal cell carcinoma to the adrenal gland is considered rare compared with other sites such as the lungs, liver, and bones. In addition, the occurrence of metastasis to the contralateral adrenal gland is an exce

Renal angiomyolipoma has two histological variants: classical and epithelioid. Epithelioid angiomyolipoma is considered as a potential malignant tumor, often leading to recurrence and metastasis, with rapid progression in most of the cases. The lung is one of the most commonly reported sites of metastasis, and pulmonary metastasis of renal angiomyolipoma is usually diagnostic by computed tomography (CT) scans. Here, we report for the first time renal angiomyolipoma with lung metastasis by combining CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Oral cavity metastasis from renal cell carcinoma is rare with poor prognosis. Recently immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown promising outcomes in the treatment of advanced RCC. Herein, we report a case of palatal lesion mimicking vascular tumor in a 60-year-old woman with locally advanced kidney cancer (T3aN0M0). She underwent an excisional biopsy, and histopathological examinations revealed an oral metastasis from clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). The patient was treated with a combination of two ICIs with nivolumab, a programmed death 1 (PD-1), and ipilimumab, a cytotoxic T-

Background: Many people want to die at home, but it is often not possible because they do not share their wishes with family members. This study was conducted to find out the extent to which patients with advanced urological malignancies had wishes regarding their final stage of life, made arrangements accordingly, and communicated their wishes to relatives and health care professionals. Methods: We conducted a survey among advanced urological tumor patients during their clinic visit at a German university hospital using a 31-item questionnaire. Inclusion criteria were metastatic or irresectab

A 15-year-old domestic shorthair cat was presented with gastrointestinal signs, polyuria, polydipsia, and weakness. Abdominal bruit ("whooshing" sound from turbulent blood flow) and hypertension (systolic blood pressure: 200 mmHg) were present. A left adrenal gland mass was detected with abdominal ultrasonography; a subsequent CT examination identified a mass and a thrombus in the ipsilateral renal vein. Adrenalectomy and venotomy were completed but nephrectomy was not necessary. Histological diagnosis was an adrenocortical carcinoma. There were no clinical signs at a follow-up examination 30

A female patient in her 70s with a newly diagnosed clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) with osseous metastasis presented with sudden onset erythematous painful blistering skin lesions on the dorsum of both hands, with associated intermittent fever episodes. Blood tests showed elevated inflammatory marker levels (C reactive protein 257.8 mg/dL, leucocytes 17.79×10⁹/L, with 94% neutrophils). Histologically, there was predominately neutrophil dermal infiltrate without leucocytoclastic vasculitis. The diagnostic criteria of Sweet syndrome were fulfilled. A week later, the patient developed abr

BACKGROUND: Lasting local control of brain metastases following stereotactic radiotherapy is becoming increasingly relevant since systemic treatment constantly improves the prognosis of patients with extracranial metastases.
METHODS: 73 patients with 103 brain metastases received hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT) in 6 fractions of 5 Gy between January 2017 and December 2021 at the University Hospital Regensburg, Germany. The study retrospectively evaluated local progression free survival (LPFS), overall survival (OS) and distant brain progression free survival (DPFS) of patien

BACKGROUND: Single-fraction stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is an established standard for radiation therapy of brain metastases although recent developments indicate that multi-fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT) results in lower radiation necrosis especially for larger metastases, and the same or even better local control in comparison to SRS.
METHODS: Seventy-two patients with 111 brain metastases received SRS with a single dose of 18 Gy between September 2014 and December 2021. The dose prescription was either 18 Gy given to the enclosing 80% isodose with a normalization to Dmax

BACKGROUND: Disco-interaction protein 2 homologue B (DIP2B) plays an important role in DNA methylation. There have been many reports on DIP2B in various diseases, but neither the diagnostic value nor the prognostic value of DIP2B across cancer types has been deeply explored.
METHODS: The expression levels of DIP2B in 33 cancer types were analysed based on data sets from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) database. The relationships of DIP2B expression with immune cell infiltration and immune-related gene expression were studied via the CIBERSORT, ESTIMATE

PURPOSE: Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) are rare tumors with a poor prognosis. The standard treatment for localized disease is based on total nephroureterectomy (NUT) followed by platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy for eligible patients at risk of recurrence. However, many patients have renal failure after surgery preventing chemotherapy. Thus, the place of preoperative chemotherapy (POC) is questioned with little information available about renal toxicity and efficacity.
METHODS: A single center retrospective study was performed on patients with UTUC who received POC.
RESULTS: In

Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by germline mutations in the folliculin gene (FLCN) that result in the functional loss of the tumor suppressor folliculin. It is classically associated with cutaneous hamartomas, pulmonary cysts with spontaneous pneumothorax, and various renal cancers. In this case, we present a patient initially diagnosed with chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and subsequently found to have colorectal cancer (CRC). The presence of two separate malignancies in a young patient with a strong family history of CRC (father and paternal grandfath
