INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer-related lymphedema is a chronic symptomatic condition associated with breast cancer treatment. It affects upper-extremity function and psychosocial well-being. Clinical assessments do not fully capture its multidimensional impact on quality of life, highlighting the need for patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). The LYMPH-Q Upper Extremity Module is a validated, lymphedema-specific PROM designed to evaluate these dimensions from the patient's perspective. However, a Greek version suitable for clinical and research use has not been available.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a prevalent and devastating condition responsible for substantial morbidity and mortality in the United States (US). Although the burden of cardiopulmonary (CP) comorbidity in COPD is increasingly known, CP risk remains frequently under-recognized and suboptimally managed in routine clinical practice. Definitions of CP risk in COPD vary across the literature and clinical settings. CP risk may be broadly defined as the risk of serious respiratory and/or cardiovascular events in patients with COPD, including COPD exacerbations, myocardial infarctio

OBJECTIVE: Acute musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries are common in youth and prior research has identified somatosensory experiences such as conditioned pain modulation (CPM) as a predictor of the transition from acute to chronic pain. Prior pediatric studies are limited by small samples, single quantitative sensory testing (QST) modalities, and short-term follow-up, so the utility of QST in predicting longer-term pain outcomes following acute injury is unknown. To fill this gap, we examined somatosensory function in the acute pain period as a predictor of pain outcomes over 12 months.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a multisystem condition associated with disease-causing variants of either TSC1 or TSC2 genes. Significant kidney involvement in TSC is most often due to development of angiomyolipomas (AMLs) and occurs more frequently in people with TSC2 variants. Kidney cysts are also commonly seen; however, these are usually small and not recognised as problematic. A subset of patients has a severe polycystic kidney disease due to a contiguous gene deletion involving PKD1 and TSC2 on chromosome 16. End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) occurs commonly in patients with TSC2/PKD1

Multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF) represent a severe form of asthenozoospermia that leads to male infertility, and it is commonly associated with genetic defects affecting flagellar components. Although the gene CFAP65 has been implicated in MMAF, its full mutational spectrum and clinical relevance within highly consanguineous populations remain poorly characterized. To elucidate the genetic basis of this condition, whole-exome sequencing followed by Sanger sequencing was performed in two infertile individuals from a consanguineous Pakistani family. Sperm morpho

INTRODUCTION: Handgrip strength (HGS) is a key indicator of functional decline. We investigated whether central adiposity (waist-to-height ratio, WHtR) and renal dysfunction independently or additively correlate with low HGS across body mass index (BMI) categories in Asian patients with type 2 diabetes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 1,468 patients. Low HGS was defined by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Multivariable logistic regression evaluated independent and combined correlates. Subgroup analyses examined the interactions bet

Atherothrombosis is a complex vascular disorder in which a thrombus forms on a vascular lesion, typically following the disruption and/or erosion of an atherosclerotic plaque. Atherothrombosis is the main pathological mechanism underlying atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVDs) [i.e., myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic stroke, and peripheral artery disease (PAD)]. In recent years, substantial advances have reshaped our understanding of ASCVD, spanning its pathophysiology, risk stratification, and therapeutic management. Emerging insights into the mechanisms of atherosclerosis progre

Psoriasis is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disease associated with cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities. It is driven by a sustained immune response in the skin, orchestrated by keratinocytes and both innate and adaptive immune cells. The initial phase of the pathology remains largely unclear. It likely involves the activation of dendritic cells by stress signals from keratinocytes with the NLRP3 inflammasome potentially acting as a key innate sensor. Here we investigate the effects of the topical administration of the selective NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950, in the imiquimod-induced psorias

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening, exceedingly rare hyperinflammatory syndrome that typically presents with nonspecific symptoms such as fever and cytopenia. An early diagnosis of HLH is a significant clinical challenge, especially in children with presentations mimicking common infectious diseases. A 9-year-old girl came with a 2-week history of intractable high-grade fever, cough, and generalized weakness, unresponsive to broad-spectrum antibiotics. Physical examination showed hepatosplenomegaly and pallor. Laboratory tests showed pancytopenia, significantly elev

BACKGROUND: Monoclonal gammopathy of thrombotic significance (MGTS) is a recently described chronic prothrombotic condition characterized by monoclonal anti-PF4 antibodies that are detected above the polyclonal antibody background in patient sera (i.e. present as monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, MGUS). Due to conflicting data in the published literature on antibody clonality in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), we evaluated clonality and abundance of anti-PF4 antibodies in HIT, including investigating whether an MGUS, if present in HIT, represents the causative anti-PF

Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs) are among the most common cancers in the US, yet their etiology is mostly unknown. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a known driver of rare NHLs, but its role in common subtypes is unclear. We evaluated associations between antibodies to 16 EBV antigens, including 12 emerging markers (anti-: BARF1, BBRF1, BFRF1, BGLF2, BHRF1, BORF1, BPLF1, BRLF1, BXLF1, LF2, LMP1, VCAp40) and NHL risk in prediagnostic blood samples from 2134 case-control sets from 4 prospective cohort studies. Conditional logistic regression estimated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Corneal scarring (fibrosis) is a blinding condition affecting millions of sufferers worldwide. It is not only in common ocular injuries but also in genetically inherited rare diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa (EB), keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness (KID) syndrome and aniridia. In rare diseases like EB or KID syndrome, corneal fibrosis arises from chronic inflammation, structural instability and neuro-immune dysfunction driven by genetic mutations. Current therapies are not effective in addressing the needs of affected individuals due to limited efficacy nor the considerable side effects of tr

Babesiosis and Lyme disease are tick-borne infections endemic to the northeastern and upper Midwestern United States. Although both diseases can involve multiple organ systems, acute liver failure (ALF) is exceedingly uncommon. Co-infection with Babesia microti and Borrelia burgdorferi may exacerbate disease severity, create diagnostic uncertainty, and delay appropriate therapy. We describe a 77-year-old man with type II diabetes mellitus, stage IV chronic kidney disease, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction who presented with dyspnea, cough, and peripheral edema. INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Combined supra-aortic debranching and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) are well-established therapeutic options for complex aortic arch pathologies. Although rare, late complications such as esophageal injury can be life-threatening and require prompt multidisciplinary management. Several cases of delayed esophageal perforation complicated by mediastinitis have been reported in the literature. However, perforation presenting solely as a graft infection causing microembolizations remains exceedingly rare.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) characterized by autoreactive T-cell responses against myelin antigens. Current disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) broadly suppress immune activity but do not restore antigen-specific immune tolerance and may cause significant adverse effects. Antigen-specific immunotherapies offer a rational alternative aimed at selectively re-educating the immune system without compromising protective immunity. Structural determinants of myelin antigens, including arginine-dependent conformational stability and post-t

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune condition that affects the central nervous system (CNS) and leads to neuroinflammation. The chronic inflammatory cascades of the immune system damage the functions of the nerves and myelin tissue. The heterogeneity of MS symptoms depends on the anatomical location of the lesion within the CNS. The identification of the gut microbiota as a crucial modulator of neuroinflammation via the microbiota-gut-brain axis has been the subject of new studies. Butyrate, one of the well-known short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by gut bacteria through the ferment

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains a high-mortality cancer due to its aggressive nature and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME), which enables evasion of immune surveillance. Despite chemotherapy and targeted therapies, 5-year survival is ~ 30%, necessitating novel immunotherapies. AML suppresses cytotoxic T/NK cells by co-opting regulatory pathways, creating an "immune paradox." Emerging strategies aim to disrupt this evasion. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as anti-PD-1 nivolumab and anti-CD47 magrolimab, combined with hypomethylating agents (HMAs), enhance T-cell acti

Cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-shortening genetic disease, is hallmarked by mucus obstruction, respiratory deficiency, and chronic bacterial infections. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the most common virulent respiratory pathogen that is detrimental to the overall survival of CF patients. Here we evaluate the efficacy of farnesol emulsion, a broad-spectrum agent recently used to combat P. aeruginosa biofilm infections, for reducing P. aeruginosa infections in CF using a three-dimensional (3D) airway "organ tissue equivalent" (OTE) model. OTEs are fabricated using cells derived from human primary cell

CAR cell therapies have significantly advanced personalized treatment for several hematological malignancies. Currently, seven CAR- cell products are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and six by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for treating lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Several challenges and limitations remain, with cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) being the most significant. Cell-free therapies, such as CAR-EVs, offer substantive advantages over their cellular counterparts. T
