BACKGROUND/AIMS: To determine the safety and effectiveness of endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS) for children with biliary atresia.
METHODOLOGY: Subjects were 7 patients with biliary atresia with esophagogastric varices and variceal bleeding. Intravariceal injection using 5% ethanolamine oleate was performed under fluoroscopy until varices were eradicated.

Computed tomographic (CT) findings are described in three diabetic patients with central airways mucormycosis. The CT findings of the tracheobronchial mucormycosis include enhancing areas of mural thickening (n = 3), luminal narrowing (n = 3), intramural air (n = 3), low-attenuation nonenhancing bronchial wall thickening (n = 2), and bronchonodal fistula formation (n = 1). These CT features in a diabetic patient should raise a high index of suspicion for tracheobronchial mucormycosis, particularly when typical radiographic features of pulmonary tuberculosis are absent.

Fibreoptic bronchoscopy is an established diagnostic procedure for HIV-associated pulmonary infections. We retrospectively evaluated the diagnostic effectivity and safety of fibreoptic bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and transbronchial biopsy (TBB) in 153 patients with late-stage HIV infection and clinical signs of pulmonary infection or abnormal chest radiograph. Two hundred and ninety-three bronchoscopies were done for 285 patients (78% males, 22% females) at Hospital University Sains Malaysia between 1984 and 1988.
