BACKGROUND: Radial osteotomy has shown favorable clinical results for early to advanced stages of Kienböck disease. However, it is not clear whether this technique could change the natural course of the disease, or whether its clinical results are actually superior to those of nonoperative treatment. Avascular necrosis (AVN) is a chronic bone complication of sickle cell disease (SCD) resulting in significant morbidity. Understanding associated risk factors can facilitate risk-based screening, earlier identification, and prompt intervention. Between 1998 and 2014, 26 symptomatic cases with imaging evidence of AVN were compared 1:5 with age- and SCD genotype-matched controls (n = 128). INTRODUCTION: To date, the relationships between systemic diseases and endodontic treatment outcomes remain poorly studied. Thus, the purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the relationship between host-modifying factors and their association with endodontic outcomes.
METHODS: Two reviewers independently conducted a comprehensive literature search. The MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, and PubMed databases were searched. In addition, the bibliographies and gray literature of all relevant articles and textbooks were manually searched. There was no disagreement between the 2 reviewers.

Neoplasic and non neoplasic lesions of the jaws are regularly classified as radiopaque or radiolucent, odontogenic or not odontogenic.However, a significant number of pathologies can be classified as mixed or are initially radiolucent to later become radiopaque or mixed. Certain diseases present different stages of development that are radiolucent, radio opaque or mixed. The purpose of this article is to provide a better understanding of the imaging of these lesions based on a literature review ,and illustrated by personal clinical observations.

A patient was referred by a clinical oncologist regarding a non-healing area of bone in the lower jaw. The patient was taking denosumab (Prolia(®), Xgeva(®)) when they had a tooth extracted and the area failed to heal. Following suspension of the drug, the area healed with mucosal coverage. This new class of drugs are being increasingly used as an alternative antiresorptive drug to bisphosphonates and are licenced in the UK for prevention of osteoporotic fractures and prevention of skeletal-related events (SREs) in patients with metastatic cancer.

Elderly patients suffering from avascular necrosis of a carpal bone in both wrists are extremely rare. We report a case of an elderly kendo (Japanese fencing) competitor who sustained Preiser's disease in the left hand following the occurrence of Kienböck's disease in the right hand. The current case demonstrates the importance of raising awareness of these diseases as potential sports-related problems in the elderly.

The authors report a case of Kienböck's disease in a nine-year-old male gymnast, treated conservatively. It resulted in a clinically normal wrist and complete revascularisation of the lunate on MRI. This case suggests that the natural course of Kienböck's disease can be more favourable in children as compared to adults.

This is a presentation of a rare malignant tumor that uncommonly affects the bones of the foot. The following case involves a malignancy which usually presents during childhood or adolescence presenting much later in life. Physicians treating the foot and ankle must include osteosarcoma in their list of differential diagnoses to exclude when vague symptoms involving deep pain and edema present. It is critical to prevent misdiagnosis and delayed treatment with this form of tumor.

Incidence of osteochondritis dissecans of the talus (ODT) ranges to 0.9 %, most often located in the region of the dorsomedial aspect of the talar dome. ODT is frequently discussed as a sequel of trauma. We present the rare case of a 30 year young patient suffering from ODT of the talar head without history of trauma. Revision of the talonacvicular joint and excision of the stage 3 lesion according to Berndt and Harty and microfracturing were performed. Since avascular necrosis of the bone was first described in a HIV infected patient in 1990, its incidence has increased, especially in recent years. The hip is most commonly involved and often bilaterally. We report a series of 5 cases of avascular necrosis of the bone in patients with HIV infection. Both hips were involved in 4 of the cases.
