BACKGROUND: Fasting hypoglycemia is a recognized occurrence among pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) during maintenance therapy. Existing publications describing this finding are limited to small studies and case reports. Combined rearrangements of MYC and BCL2 are rare in precursor B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). A 14-year-old boy presented with swelling of the knee and face. Imaging revealed diffuse infiltration of lacrimal glands, parotid glands along with the extensive epidural disease. PURPOSE: The rationale of the current study was to develop 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP)-mediated hematological toxicity prediction model for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) therapeutic management.
METHODS: A total of 96 children with ALL undergoing therapy with MCP-841 protocol were screened for all the ten exons of TPMT, exon 2, exon 3 and intron 2 of ITPA using bidirectional sequencing. This dataset was used to construct prediction models of leucopenia grade by constructing classification and regression trees (CART) followed by smart pruning.

The prognostic significance of low-hypodiploidy has not been extensively evaluated in minimal residual disease (MRD)-oriented protocols for adult acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). We analysed the outcome of hypodiploid adult ALL patients treated within Programa Español de Tratamientos en Hematología (PETHEMA) protocols. The 5-year cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR) of low-hypodiploid B-cell precursor (BCP)-ALL was significantly higher than that of high-hypodiploids (52% vs. 12%, P = 0.013). Low-hypodiploid BCP-ALL patients aged ≤35 years showed superior survival (71% vs. 21%, P = 0.026)

BACKGROUND/AIM: The canonical Wingless-type (WNT) pathway is involved in normal hematopoietic cell development and deregulated WNT signaling is implicated in the development of hematological malignancies. Dickkopf 1 (DKK1) acts as a modulator of the β-catenin regulated canonical pathway. Activation of DKK1 leads to apoptosis and growth suppression, whereas silencing by promoter hypermethylation results in abnormal WNT activation.
