Otitis media.

Earache, a common symptom in children, causes many parents to seek medical attention. Aside from trauma and the discomfort that often accompanies viral infections of the upper respiratory tract, acute otitis media with effusion is the commonest cause of otalgia in infants and children. Proper management requires a team effort between the physician and the child's parents or caretaker. The physician must transmit to the parents a concise but thorough overview of the problem and a plan for management. This should include information on the pathophysiology of ear disease, its incidence, therapy a

Rehabilitation of alexia: a case study.

This case study described the success of a technique labeled Multiple Oral Rereading (MOR) in the remediation of a case of acquired alexia in an adult male. Unusually slow visual-verbal processing characteristic of this patient is sometimes noted in dyslexic children. The possibility that MOR might prove effective for other selected cases of acquired alexia and "developmental" dyslexia is considered.

The consultant's guide: evidence-based digital transformation framework for healthcare institutions in developing and resource-constrained economies.

BACKGROUND: Digital transformation is increasingly reshaping healthcare delivery worldwide; however, the adoption of digital health systems in developing and resource-constrained economies remains constrained by infrastructural limitations, poor alignment with clinical workflows, inadequate user involvement, and resistance to organizational change. Many digital healthcare initiatives in these settings continue to experience implementation and sustainability challenges, partly due to the absence of context-specific and evidence-based transformation models. Consequently, this study aimed to deve

Integrating quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and knowledge translation into a health Sciences masters' programme: a mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, the emphasis on quality improvement (QI), evidence-based practice (EBP), and knowledge translation (KT) in the education of health professionals has increased. Efforts have been made to identify commonalities between quality improvement and implementation science. However, the development of curricula that encompass these approaches remains poorly understood. Consequently, this study examines the implementation of a novel teaching module in quality improvement and evidence-based practice, designed for health sciences master’s students. The objective was to explore

Appropriate antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance: knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of medical students and their needs and preferences for learning.

BACKGROUND: The impact of an appropriate use of antibiotics on the prevention of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been demonstrated. Surveys have shown, however, that medical students do not feel sufficiently trained to use antibiotics wisely. The aims of our study were (1) to describe what medical students currently know about appropriate antibiotic use, and (2) to identify students' learning preferences as a basis for developing student-centred teaching modules to convey the basics of AMR prevention. METHODS: We performed an online survey at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Juli

Multiple De Novo Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations in a Patient with Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis.

Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (cAVMs) are traditionally considered congenital anomalies. The literature includes only two reported cases of de novo solitary cAVMs associated with liver cirrhosis (LC). Here, we report a unique case of multiple de novo cAVMs in a patient with alcoholic LC. Teaching point: In patients with potential risks for de novo cAVM, including liver cirrhosis, the possibility of multiple de novo cAVMs should be considered.
