A controlled trial of oral acyclovir in herpetic dendritic corneal ulcers was carried out on 31 patients. All patients received minimal wiping debridement of the ulcer, following which they were randomly allocated to receive either oral acyclovir or placebo for 7 days. At the end of treatment 67% of dendritic ulcers in patients receiving acyclovir had healed compared with 43% in placebo recipients. The proportion of ulcers healed in the 2 groups at 7 days showed no significant difference (p = 0.18), but the rate of healing was significantly faster in acyclovir group (p = 0.03).

We examined the nasal responsiveness to topical methacholine application in allergic rhinitis and non-allergic chronic rhinitis patients, and in control subjects. Methacholine responsiveness was significantly higher in allergic rhinitis patients than in non-allergic patients and control subjects. To test the prophylactic value of anti-motion sickness drugs, a randomized double-blind trial was undertaken on 46 young, healthy, male volunteer marines. Comparison was made between a transdermal therapeutic system (TTS) containing as the effective agent scopolamine (TTS-scopolamine) and proprietary meclozine tablets. The local pharmacodynamics of a topical vasodilator (methyl nicotinate) has been followed noninvasively using photopulse plethysmography. This technique is sensitive to changes in blood flow through the cutaneous microcirculation and responds to the pharmacologic stimulus of the vasoactive agent employed. Reports about a good effectiveness of systemic therapy of papular rosacea with metronidazole stimulated us to investigate the value of a local treatment 1) with metronidazole mixed in Ungt. emulsific. aquosum, 2) some other available imidazole-derivative-cremes, 3) a new agent bifonazole. The last substance had a better effectiveness than the others, but the results with all these preparations were well enough to recommend them even in lower concentrations for local treatment of papular rosacea.

Firstly we showed the reason for the choice of each product used in the preparation of this cosmetic. After this we studied "in vitro" the effect of this preparation, and "in vivo" in 25 patients sensitive to Potassium dichromate. On seeing the null effect of this preparation, owing to the oxidation of ascorbic acid, on these 25 patients, we modified the formula, substituting the ascorbic acid and EDTA, respectively, for tartaric acid and glycine. The respective tests "in vitro" and "in vivo" on 20 patients, this time showed beneficial effect of this preparation in 60% of the patients tested.

The effect of chronic administration of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) on HGH, basal and TRH stimulated PRL and TSH levels was studied in seven healthy female volunteers. HGH and TSH basal levels remained unaffected. Basal PRL and TRH stimulated PRL and TSH levels were slightly reduced without statistical significance (P greater than 0.05). The results indicate, that stimulation of the hypothalamic dopaminergic pathway by pyridoxine is highly variable and unpredictable. Therefore it seems meaningless to recommend vitamin B6 for the treatment of hyperprolactinaemia.

This paper presents five cases of steroid resistant vernal keratoconjunctivitis which were treated with cromolyn sodium. Four of the five patients had an associated punctate keratitis which cleared in this treatment. Topical application of cromolyn in the form of 4%aqueous solution appears to be an effective means for treating vernal keratoconjunctivitis .The drug is well tolerated and is without significant ocular side effects. The intraocular pressure before and three h after oral administration of a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor was measured in one normotensive, one hypertensive as well as two glaucoma groups. An allergic contact dermatitis from fluorouracil developed in two patients 8 and 18 days respectively after institution of topical fluorouracil therapy. The character of the usual irritant dermatitis changed to that of an allergic dermatitis. Epicutaneous patch tests and intradermal tests with fluorourcil were reactive. Histologic specimens of positive test sites revealed the changes expected in allergic contact dermatitis. Twelve control subjects failed to react to intradermal fluorouracil tests.
