Two experiments in the rabbit model have been carried out to see if a vascular pedicle placed in a growing epiphysis would establish new capillaries. In one, the vascular pedicle of peroneus longus muscle was placed in the proximal fibula epiphysis. In the other, the proximal fibula was excised and the epiphysis placed across the saphenous artery and vein in the groin. After 3 months, histological examination of the epiphyses in both experiments showed that no new vessels had grown from the vascular pedicle. The ultrastructure of irradiated rabbit thyroid gland (0 Gy, as control, 4 Gy, 8 Gy, 12 Gy, 16 Gy and 20 Gy X-ray) is studied. A local cooling test produces a typical flow stop reaction in nailfold capillaries in 88% of patients with Raynaud's phenomenon, but only in 15% of healthy controls. We report a female infant who presented at birth with an unusual syndrome of disseminated cutaneous and gastrointestinal vascular malformations associated with severe thrombocytopenia and chronic gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The infant required extensive blood-product support and expired at 7 months of age. Postmortem examination confirmed the presence of numerous flat vascular lesions, descriptively classified as angiodysplastic, and composed of congeries of dilated capillaries, arterioles, and postcapillary venules. To clarify the pathogenesis of acute haemorrhagic enteropathy, the present study was undertaken using the ileum of rats. The ligation of marginal veins of the ileum or the injection of endotoxin to the intact rats induced only slight mucosal haemorrhage. On the other hand, the injection of endotoxin into rats with ligation of the marginal veins led to severe mucosal haemorrhage. The dermal changes in four cases of generalized granuloma annulare (GGA) and in four of localized granuloma annulare (LGA) were studied ultrastructurally, and the findings in the two groups were compared. A histopathologic study was carried out on lymph nodes and viscera of 98 cows and 28 heifers that responded positively in serologic examinations for leukosis. This study reports on the stagnation of blood within the microcirculatory vessels of the testes of patients with varicocele. Both fine structural and quantitative studies were carried out on testicular biopsies from 14 men with varicocele and a control group of three men. We report epidemiologic, clinical, laboratory, and biopsy findings in 14 cases of nephropathia epidemica. The patients were between 19 and 49 years of age. The onset of the disease was characterized by high fever, nausea, headache, backache, abdominal pain, proteinuria, oliguria, hematuria, and uremia. The symptoms subsided rapidly during the polyuria phase, which followed the oliguria stage. Because of renal failure, hemodialysis was required in eight cases. Edema of eyelids, conjunctival injection and hemorrhages, transitory myopia, and acute glaucoma were the most common eye abnormalities.
