Inferring parameters of cancer evolution in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

As a cancer develops, its cells accrue new mutations, resulting in a heterogeneous, complex genomic profile. We make use of this heterogeneity to derive simple, analytic estimates of parameters driving carcinogenesis and reconstruct the timeline of selective events following initiation of an individual cancer, where two longitudinal samples are available for sequencing. Using stochastic computer simulations of cancer growth, we show that we can accurately estimate mutation rate, time before and after a driver event occurred, and growth rates of both initiated cancer cells and subsequently appe…

LncRNA OIP5-AS1 Knockdown Targets miR-183-5p/GLUL Axis and Inhibits Cell Proliferation, Migration and Metastasis in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is often associated with the infection of Epstein-Barr virus in nasopharynx and is mainly happened in South China and Southeast Asia. Recently, noncoding RNAs have been reported to regulate NPC carcinogenesis. LncRNA OIP5-AS1 participates in tumorigenesis and progression; however, the inherent mechanism of OIP5-AS1-mediated progression of NPC is unclear. In the current study, we aimed to explore the role of OIP5-AS1 in NPC progression. We measured the cell viability, apoptosis, migration, and invasion in NPC cells after OIP5-AS1 modulation. Moreover, we determine…

Methylation of CpG island promoters at ZNF625, LONRF2, SDC2 and WDR17 in a patient with numerous non-granular type laterally spreading tumors and colorectal cancer: A case report.

Patients with adenomatous polyposis syndromes such as familial adenomatous polyposis are at higher risk of colorectal cancer, hence continuous management is necessary. However, little is known about the etiology of patients with numerous laterally spreading tumors (LSTs), or how genetic alterations uniquely influence LSTs in colorectal carcinogenesis. The present case report investigated a woman with >150 non-granular type LSTs (LST-NG) and one sigmoid colon cancer. After subtotal colectomy via ileorectal anastomosis, genetic and epigenetic analyses were conducted by comparing the profiles of …

Emerging role of competing endogenous RNA and associated noncoding RNAs in thyroid cancer.

Cancer of the thyroid is the most common endocrine malignancy. While treatment options are limited for individuals with medullary or anaplastic thyroid cancer, understanding the underlying mechanisms is vital to developing a successful thyroid cancer treatment strategy due to the tumor's multistep carcinogenesis. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been associated with thyroid cancer progression in several recent studies; however, the role of regulatory interactions among different types of ncRNAs in thyroid cancer remains unclear. Recently, competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) has been discovered as a …
