As an architectonic, transparent and dioptric structure, the cornea plays an important role in the anatomy and physiology of the eye. Corneal grafting consists of replacing an irreversibly damaged cornea by a healthy cornea taken from a donor. Lamellar and transfixiant keratoplasty techniques are now well codified in their modus operandi and their indications. The marvellous and dramatic results achieved in some types of corneal lesions, such as keratoconus, stand in sharp contrast with the still mediocre results obtained in other lesions. A 33-year-old normotensive white women was rejected as a kidney donor because arteriography disclosed medial fibroplasia of the right renal artery. 44 months later she became hypertensive and arteriography revealed progression of the lesion. When renal venous renin assay demonstrated lateralization, a saphenous vein aortico-distal right renal arterial bypass graft was done; her blood pressure has been normal for more than 2 years since. Such patients should not donate kidneys because the course of renal arterial dysplastic lesions cannot be predicted.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to describe 3 keratoconic eyes referred for painless visual loss approximately 2 decades after penetrating keratoplasty, initially misdiagnosed as immunologic rejection but instead found to have detachment of a thin posterior corneal layer, which was successfully managed with deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK).

UNLABELLED: Successful intestinal transplantation is currently hindered by graft injury that occurs during procurement and storage, which contributes to postoperative sepsis and allograft rejection. BACKGROUND: Renal transplantation is the treatment of choice in end-stage renal disease. With the aging of the population and better medical care available, the number of high-risk patients in terms of age and comorbidities on transplant waiting lists is increasing.
