Interferon is an immunomodulating cytokine used to treat patients with different diseases, such as hepatitis C chronic infection. Cytokines are suspected to play an important role in systemic infections by group B streptococci (GBS), an important cause of neonatal sepsis. Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a fatal demyelinating disease that occurs in immunocompromised hosts. We describe two patients with biopsy-proved PML who showed improvement clinically and radiologically after medical therapy. These cases reveal that interval improvement can in rare instances be consistent with a diagnosis of PML.

Cases associating lichen planus and hepatitis C are increasingly being reported. We observed three new cases, two males and one female aged 46, 63 and 56 years respectively. In all three cases, the lichen planus was limited to the oral cavity with erosion in two cases. Hepatitis C was confirmed by 2nd generation ELISA. Two of the patients consulted for lichen planus during the recovery phase after hepatitis C. In the third patient, lichen planus preceded the hepatitis. Chronic myelocytic leukemia is a malignant clonal disorder which, after a chronic phase of about 3 to 4 years, progresses to blastic transformation. INTRODUCTION: The management of patients with Polycythemia Vera (PV) traditionally includes low-dose aspirin, phlebotomy, and cytoreductive therapy for high-risk individuals. Recent evidence suggests that cytoreductive treatment may be warranted for patients with additional risk factors beyond the traditional criteria of a history of thrombosis and age over 60 years.
