Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries are a major concern in sports, especially among athletes with limited ankle dorsiflexion, impacting performance and career longevity. Targeting kinetic and kinematic risk factors of high-risk sports actions through effective strategies is crucial for injury mitigation. This study aimed to assess the impact of internal focus (IF), and external focus (EF) within linear (LP) and differential learning (DL) methods on movement quality of a single leg drop jump (SL-DJ) task training in male handball players with restricted ankle dorsiflexion. INTRODUCTION: Traumatic lower-limb amputations and severe leg injuries may necessitate below-knee amputation when replantation or reconstruction is not feasible. In these situations, tibial bone and soft tissue may be insufficient to preserve the knee. The use of tissue from the amputated part, particularly the foot fillet flap, can allow knee salvage with significant functional benefit. The foot fillet flap is a composite flap that can be designed as pedicled or free, depending on injury characteristics. However, venous insufficiency remains a potential complication. This study investigated t

OBJECTIVES: Studies identifying clinical and MRI reinjury risk factors are limited by relatively small sample sizes. This study aimed to examine the association between baseline clinical and MRI findings with the incidence of hamstring reinjuries using a large multicentre dataset.
METHODS: We merged data from four prospective studies (three randomised controlled trials and one ongoing prospective case series) from Qatar and the Netherlands. Inclusion criteria included patients with MRI-confirmed acute hamstring injuries (<7 days). We performed multivariable modified Poisson regression analysi

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints in team sports. A screening test can help understand why injuries occur and predict who is at risk for non-contact low back pain. The objectives of the research were (1) to create models using logistic regression analysis of limited lower-extremity ranges of motion to prospectively identify potential factors for in-season non-contact non-contact low back pain and (2) to determine a training threshold (cut-off) for the identified factors in inline hockey players.
METHODS: A prospective cohort research was performed

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to dynamically assess variations in tunnel diameters following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and investigate correlations with patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and graft maturity based on signal-to-noise quotient (SNQ).
METHODS: Tunnel diameter and tunnel position were measured using three-dimensional models derived from computed tomography (CT) data. Postoperative graft maturity and integration were evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Clinical outcomes were assessed through PROs, which included the International Knee Docu

Knee injuries are common among all age groups, and clinical knee examination is essential for the prognosis, follow-up, and rehabilitation process. The Lachmeter is a newly developed digitized modification of the Rolimeter, making it easier and faster for the test personnel to read the test result. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the intra-tester and inter-tester reliability of the Lachmeter when testing healthy and traumatic knees. 24 healthy participants and a smaller sample of six ACL patients were examined with the Lachmeter by two intermediate testers and re-examined on a secon…

Lateral meniscus tear (LMT) accompanied by anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries has been reported to provoke rotatory instability of the affected knee joint. Unfortunately, these previous papers did not determine whether LMT-derived rotatory knee instability is residual because only preoperative or time zero data exists. This study aimed to longitudinally investigate how the prevalence of comorbid LMT is associated with residual rotatory knee instability (RKI) 1 year after ACL reconstruction (ACLR). A total of 327 patients who underwent double-bundle ACLR (average age: 23.4 years, body ma

PURPOSE: The aim of this consensus project was to validate which endogenous and exogenous factors contribute to the development of post-traumatic osteoarthritis and to what extent ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction can prevent secondary damage to the knee joint. Based on these findings, an algorithm for the management after ACL rupture should be established.
METHODS: The consensus project was initiated by the Ligament Injuries Committee of the German Knee Society (Deutsche Kniegesellschaft, DKG). A modified Delphi process was used to answer scientific questions. This process was

BACKGROUND: Tegner and Lysholm described their generally acknowledged activity score in 1985. It was originally tested for knee ligament injuries, but for the past 17 years it has been used for other joint evaluations as well. The development of already existing and new kinds of sports, differences between knee and ankle loading, and different injury rates provided reasons for developing an ankle-specific activity score.
HYPOTHESIS: The new score should have a higher reliability, validity, and sensitivity than the Tegner score when evaluating ankle-related activity changes.
STUDY DESIGN: Met

Traumatic knee injuries frequently involve the disruption of multiple ligaments, such as a complete tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) together with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) (Miyasaka, K., D. M. Daniel, M. L. Stone, and P. Hirshman. Am. J. Knee Surg. 4:3-8, 1991). Despite the high incidence, clinical management of this type of injury is still debated. Laboratory studies have shown that the ACL and MCL share the responsibility of stabilizing the knee, especially in response to valgus and other rotatory torques as well as anterior tibial loads (Inoue, M., E. Mc…

BACKGROUND: Injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the posterior oblique ligament (POL), isolated or associated with cruciate ligament tear, are common in cases of knee sprains and often cause valgus instability. Although there are many surgical techniques for MCL reconstruction, not all are anatomical, and not all involve reconstruction of the deep and superficial bundles of the MCL and POL with an autologous autograft.
INDICATIONS: We propose this technique in cases of chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear associated with POL and MCL injury grade III according to the H

BACKGROUND: Anterior tibial spine fractures (ATSF) in the skeletally immature parallel anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in adult patients, yet these injuries are generally regarded as mutually exclusive. Biomechanical analysis suggests that intrinsic ACL damage occurs during ATSF, and long-term clinical studies demonstrate residual anteroposterior knee laxity following ATSF. We aim to describe prevalence, demographics, and characteristics of pediatric patients who sustained ATSF with concomitant ACL injury.
METHODS: We included 129 patients with ATSF over a 16-year period. Age, sex, inj

BACKGROUND: Access to health care services is a critical component of health care reform and may differ among patients with different types of insurance. Hypothesis/Purpose: The purpose was to compare adolescents with private and public insurance undergoing surgery for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and/or meniscal tears. We hypothesized that patients with public insurance would have a delayed presentation from the time of injury and therefore would have a higher incidence of chondral injuries and irreparable meniscal tears and lower preoperative International Knee Documentation Committee (I

In this retrospective case series 80 patients divided in 40 matched pair groups with an arthroscopically proven ACL insufficiency were followed up for 15 years. One half was reconstructed using an autologous BTB patella graft, the other half was treated by a conservative physiotherapeutic based rehabilitation program. At follow-up the clinical scores (Lysholm, IKDC) showed no significant differences between subjects who had undergone ACL reconstruction and those who had not. Furthermore there was no detectable difference in the incidence of osteoarthritis between the cohorts. Patients having a
