Electrophysiological examination can provide relevant information on functional abnormalities in patients with parkinsonism. The combined use of various electrodiagnostic techniques can contribute to the diagnosis of the illness, to its correct classification and differentiation from other diseases with a clinically similar presentation, and in particular the identification of the pathophysiological processes underlying some of the signs and symptoms characterizing the movement disorder. To assess the ocular safety of doxorubicin, we reviewed doxorubicin-associated ocular adverse reactions reported to Adria Laboratories or published in the clinical literature. During a seven-month survey, Campylobacter jejuni was isolated from 9.6% of the 116 acute diarrhoeal cases admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Calcutta. In six of the 11 cases, C. jejuni occurred together with V. cholerae biotype El Tor (Ogawa) while in one case it was found in association with Shigella sonnei. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was developed to detect urinary antigen excreted by patients with Legionnaires' disease. Of 47 patients tested, antigen was detected in 39. Epilepsy surgery offers a unique opportunity to connect clinical care with fundamental research on the human brain. Tissue resected as part of indicated surgical treatment can be studied using electrophysiology, imaging, transcriptomics, proteomics, connectomics, and computational modeling without altering the clinical procedure or exposing patients to additional risk. Close partnerships between high-volume epilepsy surgery centers and basic neuroscience laboratories can therefore provide direct insight into human neuronal and circuit function that cannot always be obtained from animal models.
