OBJECTIVES: A distinctive skin problem has been observed for the last 10 years that appeared on the neck of a young adult. This encouraged us to conduct this study, to evaluate its clinical and histopathological picture.

We present an original case report of a 45-year-old woman with a five-month history of sporadic, tender, nodules present on the right upper abdomen, bilateral dorsal wrists, right upper arm, and left flank. Biopsy revealed a mild perivascular infiltrate, increased dermal mucin, and no significant increase in fibroblasts. The study consisted of 674 consecutive examinations done on patients on their first visit the College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh, over a 1-yr period starting January 1983. Men outnumbered women and 69% of the patients were Saudi Arabian nationals. Oral cancer was seen in one non-Saudi, whereas the overall prevalence of leukoplakia was 1.9%. The combination of lichenoid and granulomatous inflammation is uncommon in vulval biopsies. We present a series of 5 patients with lichenoid and granulomatous vulvitis, presenting with clinical changes resembling lichen sclerosus. BACKGROUND: Whether idiopathic atrophy of the nails (IAN) should be considered a separate entity or a clinical variant of nail lichen planus is still controversial.
OBJECTIVE: We report here the pathological study of 2 patients with IAN.
METHODS: Our patients had similar clinical features consisting of severe nail atrophy with and without pterygium.
RESULTS: The nail matrix architecture was markedly deformed with complete disappearance of the keratogenous zone that was replaced by a 3- to 10-cell-thick granular layer.
CONCLUSION: The hypothesis that IAN is an acute and self-limited variety
