The aim of this study was to investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO), free oxygen radicals, and scavenging enzymes in the development of nasal polyp (NP) disease. This study included 41 patients who underwent endoscopic surgery because of NPs. Control specimens were taken from the inferior turbinate of 32 patients who underwent septoplasty. Free radicals have been hypothesized to play a key role in the evolution of periventricular leukomalacia, although direct evidence of oxidative injury in the human infant is lacking. This case report is the first to demonstrate a marked elevation in the levels of lipid and protein oxidative products in the cerebrospinal fluid during the evolution of periventricular leukomalacia in a premature infant with meningitis.

Diabetes mellitus in pregnancy causes congenital malformations in the offspring. The aim of this work was to characterize biochemical and morphologic anomalies in the conceptus of an animal model of diabetic pregnancy.
