We report a facile Stöber approach to prepare polyphenol-based resin polymer spheres using tannic acid and formaldehyde as reactants. The tannic acid-formaldehyde (TAF) spheres directly convert into carbon spheres with monodispersity and structural integrity. In addition, TAF-Fe complex spheres are carbonized into Fe nanoparticles (NPs) decorated carbon spheres (TAF-C@Fe), which are successfully applied as electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media. Bioassay-guided fractionation of a methanol extract of Magnolia grandiflora against Plasmodium falciparum yielded two new (1 and 2) and six known (3 - 8) bioactive compounds. The structures of the new compounds were assigned by mass spectrometric and 1D- and 2D-NMR data. Known compounds were identified by comparison of 1 H-NMR and MS data with literature data. Hollow ZnS microspheres are synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. Morphology and structure of the ZnS microspheres are analyzed by SEM, TEM, XRD and N2 sorption technique, Gas sensing properties of the as-prepared ZnS sensor are also systematically investigated. The seeds of Phaseolus lathyroides were extracted with hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and methanol, respectively by Soxhlet apparatus. A novel aldo-keto reductase gene, Tm1743, from Thermotoga maritima was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The enzyme displayed the highest activity at 90 °C and at pH 9. A series of eighteen 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives have been synthesized by treating aromatic acid hydrazides with carbon disulfide in ethanolic potassium hydroxide yielding potassium salts of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles. Current chemotherapeutic options for African trypanosomiasis in humans and livestock are very limited. In the present study, a total of 71 medicinal plant specimens from 60 plant species collected in Myanmar were screened for antitrypanosomal activity against trypomastigotes of Trypanosoma evansi and cytotoxicity against MRC-5 cells in vitro.
