112 haemophilic patients infected with HIV were followed up with clinical and laboratory assessment between 1 December 1979 and 30 November 1988. Sixty-six (59%) of the patients developed HIV-related clinical symptoms and 22 (20%) developed AIDS. Twenty (18%) of the patients developed p24 antigenaemia. Amongst the 59 patients whose date of seroconversion could be estimated the calculated 8-year cumulative incidence of AIDS was 40% (symptoms 73%). We report five patients with tibia vara due to focal fibrocartilaginous dysplasia of the medial aspect of the proximal tibia. In three patients spontaneous correction occurred, while in one of the remaining two treated by operation, a valgus deformity and neurological complications resulted. Conservative management is therefore recommended.

By doing 51Cr release assays with K562 cells and single natural killer (NK) cell assays with and without interleukin-2 (IL-2) containing supernatants, we were able to establish differences and similarities in NK cell function of patients with systemic connective tissue diseases. One hundred forty-nine cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma were studied with a panel of monoclonal antibodies, including antibodies to natural killer (NK) cells--anti-NKH1, anti-Leu 7, and anti-Leu 11b. There were 95 B-cell, 51 T-cell, and three null cell lymphomas. Seventeen T-cell lymphomas (33 per cent) expressed NKH1, Leu 7, and/or Leu 11b. Babesia vesperuginis is described from blood of two species of British bat: Pipistrellus pipistrellus and Myotis mystacinus. Seven of 73 mongrel dogs in Rio de Janeiro gave positive results in skin tests with a polysaccharide mycelial antigen from Histoplasma capsulatum. Five of the positive reactors were necropsied and four of them had disseminated histoplasmosis proved by histopathology and culture. Four healthy puppies exposed for 10 min to soil at the site of a known outbreak of histoplasmosis developed symptoms and died 7-14 days after exposure with fulminant histoplasmosis. These experiments show the value of dogs as epidemiological indicator of histoplasmosis and as experimental models for the disease.
