Multidisciplinary Management of Failed Endodontic Treatment in a Hypertensive Patient With Severe Dental Anxiety Using Implant-Supported Rehabilitation: A Case Report.

Failed endodontic treatment may result in persistent pain and tooth loss, requiring careful evaluation to determine the most appropriate treatment approach. In medically compromised patients with severe dental anxiety, successful management also depends on medical stabilization, individualized treatment planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. A 56-year-old female with a medical history significant for hypertension and severe dental anxiety presented with intense pain associated with a previously endodontically treated mandibular left first molar (tooth #19). The patient's baseline blood

Assessing the efficacy and safety of combined buspirone and venlafaxine treatment in late-life depression accompanied by cognitive impairment: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Late-life depression, often accompanied by cognitive impairment, poses significant clinical challenges owing to its complex etiology and diverse manifestations. While antidepressants like venlafaxine and anxiolytics such as buspirone are effective for treating depression, their effects on cognitive function remain less well-understood. With the aging population increasingly experiencing geriatric depression, there is an urgent need for innovative treatment approaches that address both depressive symptoms and cognitive impairments. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the clinic

OBJECTIVE: Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is a complex condition associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), characterized by significant variations in symptom severity among patients. The psychological and emotional symptoms accompanying AWS significantly contribute to withdrawal distress and relapse risk. Despite the importance of neural adaptation processes in AWS, limited genetic investigations have been conducted. This study primarily focuses on exploring the single and interaction effects of single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the ANK3 and ZNF804A genes on anxiety and aggression severi

Effects of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor therapy on mental health of patients with cystic fibrosis.

Introduction: The CFTR modulator drug elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) was shown to improve CFTR function and clinical symptoms in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) with at least one F508del allele. Recently, some case reports suggested potential side effects of ETI on mental health with an increase in depressive symptoms and even suicide attempts in patients with CF. However, the general effects of this triple combination therapy on the mental health status of patients with CF remain largely unknown. Methods: We, therefore, performed a prospective, observational study in a real-life se

Examining the relationship between inflammatory biomarkers during COVID-19 hospitalization and subsequent long-COVID symptoms: A longitudinal and retrospective study.

INTRODUCTION: Long-COVID is a heterogeneous condition with a litany of physical and neuropsychiatric presentations and its pathophysiology remains unclear. Little is known about the association between inflammatory biomarkers, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the acute phase, and persistent symptoms after hospitalization in COVID-19 patients. METHODS: IL-6, CRP, troponin-T, and ferritin were analyzed at admission for all patients with COVID-19 between September 1, 2020 to January 10, 2021. Survivors were followed up 3-months following hospital discharge and were as

Hypnotherapy for agoraphobia-Feasibility and efficacy investigated in a pilot study.

UNLABELLED: A number of case studies describing hypnotherapy in the treatment of anxiety disorder patients have already been published. Only a few randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigated the efficacy of hypnotherapy but focused mainly on symptoms rather than specific mental disorders. The goal of this study was to investigate whether hypnotherapy (HT) was superior to a waitlist control group (WL) in the reduction of agoraphobia-related symptoms. Further goals were to report the feasibility of hypnotherapy as well as attrition and completion rates and detect (epi-)genetic variables, wh

Qualitative analysis of patient interviews on the burden of neuronopathic Gaucher disease in Japan.

BACKGROUND: Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare, autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder that adversely affects life expectancy and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Although HRQOL questionnaires are available for type 1 GD, they are not suitable for patients with the neuronopathic types 2 and 3 GD who have neurological symptoms that develop during early childhood or adolescence. Here we report the development of a language-validated HRQOL questionnaire specifically for patients with neuronopathic types 2 and 3 GD in Japan, which is the first step toward HRQOL questionnaire provision f

Effects of cannabidiol on symptoms induced by the recall of traumatic events in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder.

Studies with cannabidiol (CBD) suggest that this compound has anxiolytic properties and may mediate the reconsolidation and extinction of aversive memories. The objective of this study was to test whether the administration of CBD 300 mg before the recall of traumatic events attenuated symptoms usually induced by recall in subjects diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and if its potential effects interfere with the reconsolidation of aversive memories. The double-blind trial included 33 participants of both sexes, aged between 18 and 60 years, diagnosed with PTSD according to th
