The effect of the special peri-geometry of rigid naphthalene-1,8-diyl backbone in phosphenium formation reaction was investigated. 1,8-Bis(diphenylphosphino) naphthalene and P2I4 afforded triphosphenium iodide in a clean reaction. The reaction of 1,8-bis(dimethylaminophosphino) naphthalene with P2I4 is complex, it afforded four products, all containing the 1,2-dihydro-1,2-diphosphaacenaphthylene motif and heterophosphonium functionalities. The lumbar spine bone density (BMD) was assessed by single energy quantitative tomography in 16 young patients with non traited Klinefelter's syndrome (19 +/- 2.2 yr) and in 16 age weight- and height-matched control males. Renal osteodystrophy in part due to secondary hyperparathyroidism, is one of the major unresolved problems affecting patients on chronic hemodialysis. In addition, evidence has shown that parathyroid hormone (PTH) is toxic to other organ systems besides bone. The results of a prospective study on the effect of propranolol in reducing PTH levels in chronic renal failure patients on hemodialysis are reported. The radiochemical purity of preparations for 99mTc-bone-scanning was tested using thin-layer chromatography and electrophoresis. Eight Pakistani children with late rickets and two Pakistani women with osteomalacia were given a chupatty-free diet for seven weeks, substituting leavened bread of lower extraction.
