[A stratified framework for normal control tissue selection in ameloblastoma research].

Ameloblastoma is a locally invasive benign tumor of odontogenic epithelial origin. Research into its molecular mechanisms is hindered by the lack of unified norms for normal control tissue selection, which undermines data comparability. Current studies employ highly heterogeneous control tissues, including tooth germs, pericoronal tissue, normal oral mucosa and even commercial samples, thereby complicating data integration and potentially affecting the accurate interpretation of disease mechanisms. Based on principles of tooth development and the concept of "developmental arrest" in ameloblast

Research Advances and Biological Features of IgA for Immune-Related Diseases.

As the predominant antibody isotype at human mucosal surfaces, immunoglobulin A (IgA) exerts critical functions in mucosal defense and systemic immune homeostasis. The two IgA subclasses, IgA1 and IgA2, possess distinct structural and functional features and assemble into dimeric IgA (dIgA) and secretory IgA (sIgA) under physiological conditions. With advances in cryo-electron microscopy, the molecular architecture and assembly of sIgA have been clearly characterized. While IgA protects hosts from pathogenic infection and sustains immune balance, aberrantly altered IgA contributes to the patho

[Research Progress on the Biological Functions of Intestinal Eosinophils and Related Diseases].

Intestinal eosinophils are multifunctional immune cells that play a crucial role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and participating in various disease processes. Under physiological conditions, these cells contribute to maintaining intestinal barrier function, regulating local microbiota homeostasis, promoting tissue repair, and modulating local immune responses by secreting various cytokines and bioactive mediators, thereby playing an essential role in sustaining intestinal homeostasis. In pathological conditions, however, eosinophils can release cytotoxic proteins and pro-inflammatory m

The Future of Protozoan Infection Research: 3D Cell Culture and beyond.

Protozoan infections remain a major challenge to human health, owing to the substantial impact these parasites exert on their hosts. In vitro culture systems are fundamental for elucidating the host-parasite interactions underlying these infections; however, traditional two-dimensional models are often limited and fail to recapitulate key aspects of human tissue architecture and function. In this context, advanced in vitro cell culture models have emerged as powerful tools, offering increased morphofunctional resemblance to human tissues. This review critically examines recent studies employin

Pregnancy Intentions, Race and Ethnicity, and Infant Outcomes: A Research Note.

"Unintended" pregnancies are commonly thought to be associated with worse infant health outcomes than "intended" pregnancies. These associations are strongest among White mothers and are weak or not significant among Black and Hispanic mothers. Adjusting for a basic set of sociodemographic variables dramatically changes the relationship between pregnancy intention and outcomes for Whites but not for other racial and ethnic groups. The relationships between maternal characteristics, pregnancy intentions, and outcomes are very heterogeneous for different racial and ethnic groups. Public health m

A structured approach to onboarding undergraduate researchers in environmental microbiology laboratories.

Undergraduate students must be trained in foundational microbiological techniques to successfully perform undergraduate research in environmental microbiology laboratories. Many students obtain this training during Microbiology laboratory courses, but others enter research laboratories before completing such coursework or are enrolled in departments or majors where these courses are not required. We present a brief (~2-3 week), low-cost onboarding module designed for research laboratories to introduce students to foundational techniques in environmental microbiology. Through integrated activit
