Characteristics and outcomes of transoral robotic surgery with free-flap reconstruction for oropharyngeal cancer: a systematic review.

Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) approach for the treatment of oropharyngeal cancer allows for reduced patient morbidity, amongst other advantages over the traditional lip-splitting mandibulotomy method. Free-flap reconstruction is commonly utilized in head and neck cancer surgeries; however, safety and outcomes of this technique in TORS procedures have not been well studied. The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TORS with free-flap reconstruction (TORS-FFR) for oropharyngeal cancer. A systematic search of Scopus, EMBASE, CINAHL a

Robotic Pancreatoduodenectomy in Portal Annular Pancreas Using a Hanging Maneuver with Indocyanine Green Fluorescence Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Sufficient knowledge and surgical management of portal annular pancreas (PAP) are essential for pancreatic surgery. As PAP is a relatively rare pancreatic anomaly, few studies have described surgical techniques for patients with PAP undergoing robotic pancreatoduodenectomy (RPD). PATIENTS AND METHODS: An 82-year-old female patient who underwent RPD presented with distal cholangiocarcinoma and type III PAP (the fusion of the uncinate process with the anteportal main pancreatic duct). After the Kocher maneuver and stomach transection, the pancreas was transected into the neck of the

Bilateral asymmetric hip stiffness applied by a robotic hip exoskeleton elicits kinematic and kinetic adaptation.

Wearable robotic exoskeletons hold great promise for gait rehabilitation as portable, accessible tools. However, a better understanding of the potential for exoskeletons to elicit neural adaptation-a critical component of neurological gait rehabilitation-is needed. In this study, we investigated whether humans adapt to bilateral asymmetric stiffness perturbations applied by a hip exoskeleton, taking inspiration from asymmetry augmentation strategies used in split-belt treadmill training. During walking, we applied torques about the hip joints to repel the thigh away from a neutral position on

Robotic-Assisted Single-Position Prone Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion: Indications, Techniques, and Outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) is a widely utilized minimally invasive surgical procedure for anterior fusion of the lumbar spine. However, posterior decompression or instrumentation often necessitates patient repositioning, which is associated with increased operative time and time under anesthesia1-3. The single-position prone transpsoas approach is a technique that allows surgeons to access both the anterior and posterior aspects of the spine, bypassing the need for intraoperative repositioning and therefore optimizing efficiency4. The use of robotic assistance allows fo

Different approaches for bladder neck dissection during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: the Aalst technique.

INTRODUCTION: Bladder neck dissection is one of the most delicate surgical steps of robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) [1, 2], and it may affect surgical margins rate and functional outcomes [3, 4]. Given the relationship between outcomes and surgical experience [5-7], it is crucial to implement a step-by-step approach for each surgical step of the procedure, especially in the most challenging part of the intervention. In this video compilation, we described the techniques for bladder neck dissection utilized at OLV Hospital (Aalst, Belgium). SURGICAL TECHNIQUE: We illustrated five

[Robot-assisted Thoracic Surgery for Mediastinal and Chest Wall Tumors:Atypical Surgical Approaches by the Tumor Localization].

Surgery for mediastinal and chest wall tumors requires various approaches, including open and thoracoscopic, depending on the size and localization of the tumor. While robotic surgery for anterior mediastinal tumors has become a standardized approach, the approaches for tumors of the superior, middle, and posterior mediastinum, in particular, have not been generalized. Our institution introduced robotic surgery in 2017 and has performed 785 robot-assisted surgeries until November 2022. In this report, we describe our clinical experience with robotic surgery for mediastinal tumors, which requir
